Russell Crowe Got The Shits After Being Asked To Audition For Deadpool 2

No, that headline does not imply that Russell Crowe (giving mid-life crisis Kris Kringle above) had the runs, it means he was Aussie levels of pissed off that someone had the audacity to suggest that he actually read for a part. This time it was Deadpool 2 creator Rob Liefeld on the receiving end of that Russell Crowe fury (take a breath, Azealia Banks, he’ll get back to you in a minute). Digital Spy says that Rob shared a heartwarming Twitter morsel about being the latest to receive the wrath of Russell while speaking on a Las Vegas Comic-Con panel promoting Deadpool 2.

Rob told this tale:

“One night before I went to bed, I didn’t know Russell Crowe was on Twitter, and I stupidly tweeted to Russell Crowe – not ever thinking he’d answer me – and I go, ‘Hey Russell, you should read for Cable!’

“That didn’t turn out very well, I got yelled at a lot, because I woke up – because he’s in Australia – to Russell Crowe saying, ‘Read for it?!’, and my manager said, ‘Yeah… Russell Crowe doesn’t read for parts, Rob. You kind of insulted him.’

Oh, Twitter. Where would we be as a modern day civilization without the love and joy you bring? Russell was in Australia at the time he received the insult of the century, probably spit-spraying out his Vegemite toast and Coopers over this vicious attack on his undeniable talent and impressive resume. But we may never know, as Russell has been too busy brushing the families of lice out of his beard picking to a gothic soundtrack on Instagram to respond.

The role of Cable eventually went to the actor who played Brandon Walsh in Goonies (Josh Brolin), and who was probably more than happy to audition his heart out like a graduate of the Summer Heights High Drama Club for the role. And why not? Deadpool 2 has been out for just under two months and has already grossed more than $720 million. Josh’s violent asshole days might not be behind him, and defense lawyers, bail, and anger management classes don’t come cheap.
