Trent Reznor Wants The Taylor Swifts Of The World To Be More Political

Trent Reznor has some words to say about the apolitical media stars of today. Trent, who is in the process of releasing Bad Witch (the final in a trilogy of politically-charged albums), went in with the New York Times (via THR) when talking about how his band is saving the world through loud, banging music, and others are simply fucking around. Trent said this about Donald Trump:

“What Donald Trump is doing is concerning and infuriating… the disregard for decency and truth and civility is what’s really disheartening.”

Trent then came for our lady of innocence: Taylor Swift! I’m sure she’s gonna love this narrative.

Trent then slapped at the future owner of New York City by saying it’s a celebrity’s job to, “call out whatever needs to be called out.”  He continued:

“You don’t hear a lot from the Taylor Swifts of the world… concerned about their brand, their demographic and their success and career and whatnot.”

What?! Is he suggesting Taylor Swift is hyper-aware of her carefully-concocted marketing brand?! I have never in my life seen evidence of this! Shocking news, Trent.

Don’t worry, Taylor, you’ll always have an ally in Lena Dunham, which, in the fight against being branded out of touch, is an important ally.

Besides, didn’t you hear, Trent? Taylor is basically the most important political figure of the modern era. Isn’t that what happens when you throw money at a problem, instead of really talking about it? No? Okay. Well maybe Taylor has nothing to say, because her life is doing so well under the new regime? It’s not her fight. Now Karlie Kloss? That’s another story.

Trent wasn’t done talking shit about celebrities (who ever is?). He had this to say to The Guardian about Kanye West:

“The guy’s lost his fucking mind: That’s the think piece. His record sucked, and that’s it. He has made great shit. He’s not in a great place right now.”

Maybe Trent coming for both Taylor and Kanye will push the two of them together by giving them a common enemy. Maybe he’ll actually end up having something in common with Trump. Trump fixes the Koreas and Trent Reznor deals with the other political schism of our time: Tay Tay vs. Ye Ye. Can’t wait for the commemorative coin!
