Drake Goes Back To Degrassi In His New Video For “I’m Upset”

Canada Day came early this year! Yesterday Drake dropped the video for his latest song, “I’m Upset,” a video that has surely made any major fan of Degrassi: The Next Generation anything but upset. If Drake was looking for a good way to temporarily distract anyone who was still thinking about that messy beef with Pusha-T, this is it.

The video opens with Drake dozed off in bed with some lady on the Raptors court at the ACC. We know it’s not his rumored current lady, because the camera isn’t blocked by a giant booty. Drake is woken up by a reminder about his high school reunion, it turns out the high school is Degrassi High, and almost everyone from Degrassi: TNG is there. Spinner, Emma, Principal Snake, Paige, Craig, the one and only Manny Santos. This isn’t so much as a music video as it is an extra-long Canadian Heritage Minute.

There’s even an appearance by longtime Degrassi fan Kevin Smith, as his character Silent Bob. “I’m Upset” will most likely appear on Drake’s upcoming album, titled Scorpion, out June 29th.

But not everyone is happy, because not everyone is there. There was no sighting of J.T. Yorke (played by Ryan Cooley), which would have made sense considering his character was stabbed to death in season 6. But apparently it was because he didn’t think the video was legit:

There was also an absence of Emma’s bad boy boyfriend Sean Cameron (played by Daniel Clark). Page Six reached out to Daniel, and he says he had no idea the video was even happening.

“No one ever reached out to me about this. I have no idea even when it was filmed. I woke up this morning and watched the music video and was like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ It sucks because it would have been great to see everybody…It looked like everyone was having a great time, but for me, it was kind of sad too, because we were all really like family.”

Mike Lobel, who played Sean’s friend Jay Hogart for seven seasons, also didn’t get an invite, tweeting: “I’m a little upset.

I think I know why Drake didn’t invite Sean Cameron back for the reunion. In one of the later seasons, Sean gets really into street racing. At the beginning of the video, Drake pulls up in a Ferrari. When Wheelchair Jimmy eventually left at the end of the night with one or two female former classmates, it would really kill his buzz to see his car had been replaced with a note from Sean telling him he’d have it back in the morning.
