Some Think Demi Lovato “Shaded” Taylor Swift At The Billboard Music Awards
Y’all, I’m so jaded with these awards shows. Most times I forget they’re even on, and the only reason I watched the Billboard Music Awards last night was so I could see Janet Jackson dip herself in gold and show everyone how a baby and millions of dollars will make you dance like your income tax check just arrived. But before that happened Demi Lovato, dressed in an outfit from the Matrix Intimates collection, meowed like a cat dying in hot grease next to Christina Aguilera while performing their duet “Fall In Line”. The video of that is after the cut.
The viewers at home must have taken heed to those words because in true “we have no lives” fashion the internet chose Demi as its target when many viewers accused her of throwing shade from the audience, especially once aging Homecoming Queen Taylor Swift hit the stage.
Honestly, to me it just looked like Demi was trying to stay awake. However, since the internet loves to turn celebrities into villains with devious hidden agendas, people came up with their own theories about what was really going on. According to Bustle, even though it really didn’t appear to be that serious, the conspiracists couldn’t wait to transform Demi’s stale look of boredom into a moment sponsored by the words “high school” and “drama”.
Fans immediately took note. Many dubbed the expression her “resting b*tch face,” and others called her out for not looking happy. While there’s no telling whether Lovato, who was nominated for three awards, was actually mad or not, people on Twitter immediately took those seemingly steely glances and ran with them. Some fans thought she looked angry in general, while others wondered if she was throwing shade at fellow artists.
The camera cut to Demi’s face once during Shawn Mendes’ performance and once again during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. Take a look.

Twitter, of course, had to turn this into a huge deal with sophisticated tweets such as;

I’m gonna have to call shenanigans’on this one because I’m not getting petty or shade from either one of these clips. In the first one it looks like Demi’s searching for the nearest exit because she’s bored to death and in the second one she’s thinking to herself “But this bitch can’t sing.” I think that the internet has forgotten the good ol’ days when you could tell someone was throwing shade. Like back when Rihanna would point and laugh at artists during their crappy performances. Now THAT’S shade. This Demi situation is some Mickey Mouse kiddie shit that could only be cooked up by something as forgettable as the BBMAs. Not today internet, your under-cooked beef has lost all its flavor.
