“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Will Be Done After The Fourth Season

Any questions you may have had about the 4th season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Did New York ever fully recover from Hurricane Tammi (with an I)? Did Boobs in California inevitably go double platinum?) have now been replaced with one: WHY??? Because that’s all I can ask after finding out that the 4th season of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be the last.

Deadline says that when Netflix drops the 4th season on May 30th, it’s the beginning of the end. However, the last episode won’t be the last we hear of Kimmy, Titus, Jacqueline, Lillian, and everyone else. The series will end with a Netflix movie, written by series co-creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. They’ll begin working on the movie once they’re finished working on the 4th season, which will be split into two parts. The first six episodes of season 4 will premiere at the end of May, with the remaining seven episodes premiering at a later date. The movie will air sometime after the final seven episodes.

Sources say the decision to wrap it all up after four seasons and a movie was a unanimous one. Everyone thought it was time.

Netflix released the first trailer for season 4, but besides showing Kimmy at her new job at Giztoob, it doesn’t really tell us much else.

With this season being the last, I can’t help but wonder how the series will end. What will the movie tell us? I would love it if it ended with Kimmy succeeding at life (in a non-bunker victim way), Titus marrying Mikey and finally facing down his nemesis (the evil baby corn-gobbling demon Dionne Warwick), and Jacqueline knocking Deirdre Robespierre off the social ladder. But it’s probably going to end with a Yuko uprising in which all humans are now at the mercy of their shiny white robot overlords. It was good while it lasted!
