Cardi B’s Former Manager Is Suing Her For $10 Million

One of the things I know about Cardi B is that she’s serious about money. She likes it, she gets it, she wants to know what Uncle Sam is doing with it. But Cardi B isn’t the only one making money moves. According to Billboard, her former manager is attempting to move $10 million of her money into their own bank account as payback for an alleged breach of contract.

Last month, Cardi signed a new management deal with Quality Control, the same management company that also represents Migos, the rap group which includes Offset, her fiancĂ© and the father of her baby. She was previously represented by Klenord “Shaft” Raphael of KSR Group and Worldstar Management. Shaft is the one suing her. He filed a lawsuit yesterday alleging that he’s the reason we have Cardi B in our lives, and for that he should be compensated.

He claims he began working with her in 2015 after discovering her hosting parties, and quickly landed her a role on VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop. He also claims credit for crafting Cardi’s public persona, and for getting her signed to a major record label deal. In the lawsuit, Shaft implies that because of everything he did for her, she had an obligation to keep him as her manager. He’s suing for suing for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, declaratory judgment and defamation. He’s seeking $10 million in damages.

Shaft’s lawsuit also lists a co-defendant named Patientce Foster. Shaft believes Patientce had been telling Cardi that he was “robbing” her through side deals, and all that unfounded gossip is what led to her cutting him off and moving to Quality Control. TMZ spoke to sources close to the situation, and they believe Cardi had every reason to dump Shaft.

Sources say that Cardi cornered Shaft on Super Bowl weekend, accusing him of shady accounting that made it look like she was making less money than she was, and was keeping the rest for himself. Sources tell TMZ that if Cardi got paid $100,000 for a gig, Shaft would tell her she made $50,000 and pocket the difference. The final straw allegedly came when Offset discovered Cardi was paying Shaft a steep 20% management fee, and Offset reportedly urged her to leave. Sources tell TMZ that Shaft acknowledges 20% is a bit much, but he thinks Offset only pushed for new management as a way to control Cardi and her career.

If what TMZ’s sources are saying is correct, then I’m not sure why Cardi isn’t suing Shaft for scamming her out of that income. Eh, it’s probably because she knows she’d never see all of it. “Here it is, the money I owe you. Oh sorry, did we agree on more than that? My bad, I’m just so used to secretly keeping half.
