Idris Elba Will Play A Manny/DJ In An Upcoming Netflix Comedy Series

Idris Elba’s got some whickety-whickety-whack news for his fans. No, it’s not that he’s married (not yet at least). It’s that Idris will be relying on his skills on the ones and twos for his upcoming Netflix comedy series where he will play a DJ/manny.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Idris is the co-creator and executive producer of the show called Turn Up Charlie.

The actor has recently sold a new, eight-episode comedy series called Turn Up Charlie to Netflix. Elba stars as Charlie, a struggling DJ who gets his “final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a manny to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter.”

An adult  DJ and manny; that’s a double yikes. It’s hard to take grown-up DJs seriously, so it’s a good thing this is a comedy. Sounds like he might at least be self-aware enough to realize that having residency DJ gigs in Ibiza (as reported by EW), isn’t the greatest look for anyone over the age of 25. Though it does make me wonder if he was invited to MC the Fassbender-Vikander wedding.

Of course, Idris has done comedy before. He was good as the sole provider of spank bank deposits on the American version of The Office (sorry, but Jim waited too long to get hunky), so TUC could be great. Because it’s Idris, I’m going to watch this, despite the fact that house music makes my skin crawl.

When I first started trolling Idris’ Instagram and YouTube accounts some years ago, (FOR SCIENCE REASONS!) and noted his DJ and R&B singer aspirations, a little part inside of me died. I was worried I’d have a hard time slicking up after listening to Private Garden. But turns out there was nothing to worry about after I found the “mute page” option on my browser. Now I’m like, twist that knob, Idris! Twist it real good!

Boom…. New music out on @7.wallace from @brettgouldmusic ⚡️ . Link in bio
