Halle Berry Thinks “Catwoman” Deserves Another Chance

Halle Berry was a presenter at the GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday and took a moment to mention one of the greatest films of all time – 2004’s Catwoman – and declare that she thought it deserved another “goddamn chance.” YES, IT DOES. The only thing wrong with this emancipation of a bad movie proclamation was Halle not working that Clan of the Cave Bear braid that she was sporting last summer. That braid took us all to Fascination Street. Was it for a movie? Was she exploring the woodlands in a much more barbaric time? Bring that braid back, Ms Berry. And lobby for a release a Criterion Collection cut of Catwoman, already. Sharon Stone (she played the villain) has already got an outfit for the release party to go with her derisive laughter.

Halle presented Lena Waithe with the comedy TV award for Master of None, and brought up an important social issue that hasn’t received enough attention in recent years, according to People.

“Each story builds on the next. It’s like that old saying goes: behind every Black Panther is a great black Catwoman!” she said while presenting an award onstage. “You know, I’ve gotten a really bad rap for this role, and I think Catwoman deserves another god—- chance, don’t you?”

To recap, Oscar-winner Halle starred in this weirdo version of Catwoman that had very little to do with the source material (the DC Comics character) and everything to do with glamour. She played Patience, a nerdy graphic designer whose boss (Sharon Stone in her second greatest performance as an evil pantsuited cosmetics mogul cursed with marble skin from using her own evil cosmetics) tries to have her killed. Halle is resurrected by a cat with cat powers and goes on to take down Sharon but not before performing a whip dance(?) at a club. This is the ending fight scene. Need I type more?

Halle famously won the Razzie for her role and showed up to accept it clutching her Oscar. In her acceptance speech, she referred to the movie as a “godawful piece of shit.” But time heals all and Halle has obviously come to recognize Catwoman as a cinematic triumph. Her character drinks White Russians without the vodka, Kahlua, and ice! Just the milk! Because she’s a cat! Get it? RRAAOOWW.
