Nicki Minaj Talked About Her Feud With Cardi B, Says Her Feeling Were Hurt

Six months ago, rap trio Migos released the song MotorSport, featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. At the time of the song’s release, there were internet rumors going around that Nicki and Cardi were swiping at each other in their respective MotorSport verses. This was all allegedly fueled by a theory that Nicki thought she was going into the song on her own, and felt ambushed after when she realized Cardi would be involved too. It was all very messy. No one really cleared up exactly what happened, which of course led to the internet assuming Nicki hated Cardi.

Both Nicki and Cardi recently spoke about their alleged beef. But while Cardi swears she has no issue with Nicki, Nicki says she definitely did have a problem with Cardi.

Cardi was asked about this feud with Nicki during a Beats 1 Radio interview last week with Ebro Darden to promote her album Invasion of Privacy. Cardi blamed the made-up rumors on the fans, saying that she understood why, because “it’s really entertaining” to watch people beef. She also claimed to have spoken with Nicki face-to-face. As for why Cardi and Nicki never appear together in the MotorSport video, Cardi says it was her understanding that Nicki wasn’t available to shoot on the same day together.

Now for Nicki’s side of the story. Nicki recently spoke with Zane Lowe for a Beats 1 Radio interview (via Vulture) to promote her upcoming new music. Nicki says she had some major hurt feelings over an interview Cardi did after the song came out. When Nicki was first asked to do the song, she agreed, even though it was only herself and Quavo. Eventually the rest of Migos crawled on board, like Offset, the one who put a baby in Cardi. Not long after, Migos asked if Cardi could also do a verse, which Nicki gave her full approval to. But when Cardi spoke about Nicki’s involvement in the song during an interview, Nicki believes Cardi inadvertently painted Nicki as a jealous bitch with an axe to grind.

“The only thing with Cardi that really, really, really hurt my feelings was the first interview she did after MotorSport came out. With MotorSport, I kinda felt ambushed. The first thing that came out of her mouth about a Nicki Minaj feature was ‘she changed the verse.’ When it was time to clear the air about that, no one did that. All of them allowed me to look like I lied.”

As for why they never appeared together in the video for MotorSport, Nicki says that had everything to do with a scheduling conflict from sharing a hair stylist. At the time, she said she knew that everyone was going to think it was because Nicki and Cardi were beefing. Again, Nicki was pissed that no one came forward with the truth.

“They [Migos and Cardi] all knew that, and still did interviews and jumped around it just to paint Nicki as the bad person so you could play the victim. That really, really, really hurt me because I really supported her.”

Nicki was also a little upset that she didn’t receive an attitude of gratitude from Cardi after they worked together. Nicki didn’t understand why someone so new to the industry didn’t show more “genuine love” for appearing on the same song as Nicki Minaj. But she stressed that she doesn’t hold grudges. Except for when she’s on Twitter, where it would appear she’s more than happy to grab that grudge by the hair and drag it around:

If grudges follow the same 5 steps of grief, Nicki is clearly in the anger stage. If they must fight, keep it nasty, and try to get others involved. Last year during the great Nicki Minaj vs. Remy Ma throw-down, we learned that Lil Kim’ loves Cardi B. I don’t want to see anyone make art out of spite, but I’ll make an exception for an extremely petty update of Ladies Night.
