D’arcy Wretzky Dragged Billy Corgan Hard When Asked About The Smashing Pumpkins Reunion Drama

If you ever owned a ZERO shirt and live for massive amounts of drama, then this story is right up your alley. There’s a huge fight going on between the founding members of Smashing Pumpkins, specifically its original bassist D’arcy Wretzky and Billy Corgan. It’s a mess that has been made further messier, thanks to a recent interview D’arcy gave.

The Smashing Pumpkins are working on a reunion album, something D’arcy, who quit the band in 1999, confirmed last month would be happening without her. The reunion will reportedly include original members Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and replacement guitarist Jeff Schroeder. Billy Corgan decided to shake more salt into the wound on Instagram by downplaying D’arcy’s contributions to the band.

D’arcy spoke to Alternative Nation about the Smashing Pumpkins reunion. She said she and Billy were never friends, and that her relationship with him was limited to playing in a band and watching him “throw tantrums.” She says she ended up quitting in 1999 due to the stress from fighting all the time (she also claims the stress caused a miscarriage during the recording of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness). She also talked about the post-SP years she spent messed up on drugs. According to D’arcy, she was hoping the drugs would kill off all her “horrible memories.

But it’s not all dark. D’arcy told a story about Billy acting like he discovered Mozart.

“He’s sitting there literally validating Mozart like, ‘Hey, it’s okay to like Mozart, because I just realized that he was a genius.’ It’s like oh my god, I can’t listen to him talk any more!”

She also side-eyed Billy’s motivation for doing a reunion:

“Billy always said, ‘Oh, I’ll never do just a reunion and play the oldies just for money.’ That’s exactly what it is now.”

Remember when Billy claimed to have seen a shape-shifter? D’arcy has a theory to explain that.

“The shapeshifting thing, I honestly think he may have a brain tumor. He’s always been insufferable.”

D’arcy claimed she tried to get involved with the reunion negotiations, but she was curbed at pretty much every opportunity. And it’s not for lack of trying – apparently Billy has D’arcy’s number. One of the last times they texted each other, D’arcy got into some truth inspired by Farrah Moan.

“I thought he wasn’t reading my texts, then he said, ‘Blah blah blah, I wish you well.’ I was like, ‘You don’t wish me well, you don’t love me, you don’t love anybody, you don’t care about anybody.'”

And then D’arcy called Billy a liar.

“He says that he’s invited me to come out and play for all of these things, which is a complete lie. He’s never invited me to anything. In fact, my feelings were a little bit hurt because he did the solo album tour, and he didn’t tell me when it started…He thinks it’s a privilege for anyone to be in his presence, so therefore he shouldn’t have to tell me, and I shouldn’t have to be invited.”

D’arcy  just got invited for tea at Kim Gordon’s house.

I’ve learned two things from this interview. One, that D’arcy just killed any hope of ever being included in a Smashing Pumpkins reunion. Two, that if what D’arcy has said is true, then Billy needs to work with Kanye West. Delusional and controlling with a god complex? Sounds like they’d get along great.
