Sacha Baron Cohen Reportedly Paid O.J. Simpson $20,000 To Appear In A Movie

O.J. Simpson has been on the loose for more than four months, and if dodging dirty looks from people on the street was a job that paid big bucks, he’d have a very lucrative post-prison career. But O.J. Simpson needs work that pays, and it turns out Sacha Baron Cohen is willing and eager pay The Juice $20,000 to appear in a movie. That’s a lot of money for a tasteless (Borat voice) “Mai knife!” joke.

According to The Daily Mail, Sacha recently met up with O.J. Simpson in Las Vegas to film a bit for an upcoming movie. SBC reportedly went to a hotel in disguise (a black curly wig and thickly framed glasses), and a production source claims O.J. wouldn’t even enter the hotel room until he received $20,000 in cash for his appearance.

O.J. Simpson still owes $33.5 million to the families of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman after he was found liable for their deaths in a 1997 civil case. By asking to be paid in cash, he might have been attempting to hide his income. It didn’t take long for the Browns and the Goldmans to find out about O.J.’s little surprise side-gig, and they’re pretty pissed. David Cook, a collections lawyer for the Goldman family, said that if it’s true that money exchanged hands, there is a “legal and moral imperative” that “all of the money paid should go to Ron’s father Fred.” David Cook also spoke to Page Six, and condemned Sacha Baron Cohen for working with O.J. Simpson:

“Paying money – cash no less – in secret to O.J. Simpson is 100 percent unadulterated sleaze. This is nuts.”

Nicole Brown’s sister Tanya Brown isn’t so much worried about the money as she is at Sacha Baron Cohen using O.J. to get laughs on the big screen.

“Nicole and Ron are two human beings who were brutally murdered. This is not a joke nor is it entertainment. If Sacha makes this a comedic effort his victims will be personified as a joke. Shame on him.”

The Daily Mail approached O.J. while he was having lunch in Las Vegas on Friday, and they asked him about this situation with Sacha. O.J. wouldn’t confirm if he was paid $20,000 in cash for his appearance. But he was more than enthusiastic to talk about his new pal Sacha, saying that he “met him,” that he’s a “nice guy” and that he “knows him well.” The Daily Mail reached out to Sacha Baron Cohen multiple times, but he refused to comment.

Okay okay okay, maybe we just don’t have the full story here. Sacha Baron Cohen is extremely secretive when it comes to his movies. So maybe there’s a good reason why he absolutely needed an appearance by O.J. Simpson. Maybe Sacha tricks O.J. Simpson, The Jinx-style, into admitting the truth about what happened back in 1995, and we’ll all celebrate Sacha Baron Cohen as a hero? It’s the least-depressing scenario I can come up with.
