Queen Latifah Might Replace Scary Spice On “America’s Got Talent”

It’s a good thing that Spice Girls “Posh will continue to not sing” reunion is happening because Mel B might need the check more than ever. It sounds like Scary Spice is scaring producers of her summer gig, judging America’s Got Talent, and they’re looking to replace her with Queen Latifah.

It’s always cute when producers of talent shows say viewer attention should be on the rising talent and not the judges they pay tens of millions of dollars (or an expired Blockbuster gift card in the case of Kara Dioguardi on American Idol) to sit back and heckle some 14-year-old for her pitchy rendition of “Proud Mary” on America’s Got Talent. But TMZ makes it sound like AGT producers are getting a little pissed that Mel brings the drama both on and off the camera. Her divorce from Stephen Belafonte wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, and it even led to some inter-judge sparring. Simon Cowell made a crack about her marriage last season, and Mel’s inner Leeds lioness came out, causing her to chuck her drink at him.

She’s apparently also butting heads with others on the show, and producers think she’s bringing too much baggage considering how much they’re paying her. The Daily Mail says she was already looking for an increase on top of her existing $2.5 million salary. I guess NBC figures if they’re going to pony up that kind of cash, it may go to someone with a royal title like Queen Latifah! The only snafu is that Queen L is under contract at Fox for Star, which I don’t get how that’s a big deal since Ryan Seacrest is on so many different networks and cable channels that he’s a borderline breathing infomercial.
