Harvey Weinstein Has Dug Out An Old Email From Ben Affleck In An Attempt To Discredit Rose McGowan

Rose McGowan’s E! docuseries Citizen Rose premiered last night, which means Harvey Weinstein, or “the monster” as she calls him, was bound to get a new batch of bad Google alerts. Harvey’s team attempted to do some damage control by digging through his email archives and found what they consider to be a conscience-clearing conversation with Ben Affleck.

Rose alleges she was raped by Harvey Weinstein in 1997 and later accepted a $100,000 settlement from him. After Rose says she was assaulted by Harvey, she claims she told her then-manager Jill Messick and Ben Affleck. Harvey’s attorney Ben Brafman has released a statement saying Harvey has emails from both Jill and Ben in which they claim to have never had such a conversation with Rose. Ben’s email to Harvey allegedly reads:

“She never told me nor did I ever infer that she was attacked by anyone. Any accounts to the contrary are false. I have no knowledge about anything Rose did or claimed to have done.”

Jill, who later went on to work for Harvey at Miramax, allegedly communicated with Ben Brafman that anything that happened to Rose was believed to be consensual.

“When we met up the following day, she hesitantly told me of her own accord that during the meeting that night before she had gotten into a hot tub with Mr. Weinstein. She was very clear about the fact that getting into that hot tub was something that she did consensually and that in hindsight it was also something that she regretted having done.”

Harvey’s attorney responded to any of Rose’s assault claims with a big denial.

“Mr. Weinstein denies Rose McGowan’s allegations of non-consensual sexual contact and it is erroneous and irresponsible to conflate claims of inappropriate behavior and consensual sexual contact later regretted, with an untrue claim of rape.”

As expected, Rose had words for Harvey.

Harvey’s attorney claims those are Ben Affleck and Jill Messick’s responses to “watching the ‘performance’ by Rose McGowan as she looks to promote her new book.” Harvey’s attorney doesn’t say when those alleged emails were sent. I guess our only timeline clue would be if Ben’s email address was something like KewlBostonBro@aol.com. Although let’s be honest, he probably still uses a variation on that.
