Matt Lauer And His Wife Have Been Living Separate Lives For Years

Page Six claims that former big bag of smug Matt Lauer (or is he still smug?) and wife Annette Roque have been one of those “stay together for the kids and the press” couples for several years now. As if children are stupid and actually believe mommy and daddy have slept in separate bedrooms for years because “Daddy snores.” The 59-year-old alleged cad was living in their Park Avenue apartment during the week while the wife and kids remained back in Sag Harbor.

Annette is said to have returned to her native Netherlands this week, and reportedly took sons Romy, 14, and Thijs, 11 with her. The oldest son, Jack, 16, is still at his prep school outside Manhattan. A source says:

“Annette has taken their two younger kids out of school and is believed to have left the US and gone to her family in her native country.” It is believed her mother lives near Amsterdam.

Annette, who is a former Victoria’s Secret model, apparently defined the role of “long-suffering wife” when it came to her marriage to Matt. Except she did it in incredibly expensive riding breeches.

For years, while Lauer spent his days hosting one of America’s most popular morning shows, Roque has honed her equestrian skills at the boutique 40-acre horse farm that the couple constructed near their home.

“When I see her, she’s always in riding clothes,” said one local.

Sources portray her as the “Long-Suffering Wife of Sag Harbor.

At the Calypso St. Barth boutique, employees said that Roque is the town mystery, seen as “a sad wife.” “While Matt is always out and about with his kids and very pleasant, he is never with Annette,” a local told The Post.

The couple almost divorced in 2006 after she supposedly found out about Matt’s alleged affair with Today correspondent Natalie Morales. Matt and Natalie were covering the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy at the time and Annette heard they were trying out the two-man luge sans clothing.

Both Lauer and Morales have fiercely denied an affair, but that September a seven-months’-pregnant Roque filed for divorce, alleging “cruel and inhumane” treatment and citing Lauer’s “extremely controlling” behavior — but not on grounds of infidelity.

The divorce filing was dropped when Matt supposedly offered her $5 million to stay married to him. That’s a lot of riding breeches.

Page Six reported on Saturday that Lauer offered her up to a rumored $5 million deal to remain in the marriage. A source said, “Matt needed to stay in the marriage to keep his reputation as America’s nicest dad. He is in fact a … very doting dad to his kids, but he is also a terrible husband.”

The local horse breeders must have loved these two. Matt would apparently shell out for a new pony every time Annette found out about another of his transgressions.

But at the same time, the Hamptons horsey set was whispering about a new addition to the Lauers’ stable. “He bought Annette a $100,000 horse, and we said, ‘Well, Matt must have been caught cheating again,’” a media source told The Post. “Every time he’s caught he buys her a horse.”

Matt and Annette are said to have begun living separate lives in March of 2010, after a story broke about him whooping it up in Vancouver during the Winter Olympics that year. What is it with Matt Lauer and the Winter Olympics? The sexual harassment complaint that flicked the first downfall domino concerned an incident at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. It’s a good thing that NBC News fired him before this year’s Winter Olympics in Seoul, because not only have the viewers been spared from seeing his face, but the interns may have been spared from him flashing them.
