The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Must Go On, And It Did

The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show happened last night in Shanghai! The good news is, it wasn’t a total disaster. Despite some stumbling blocks erected by the Chinese Government, they somehow managed to find enough ladies, enough cameras, and drum up enough hullabaloo to pull it off. The bad news is, it was still the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The uncategorized news is that Harry Styles was the featured performer, since previously scheduled Katy Perry was deemed an enemy of the state.

There seemed to be three distinct category of looks for the Angels. Since the jumping off point has to be ladies in drawers, it’s all about the accessories when it comes to pulling a runway ready look together. Category one: Sports balls!

This category featured the brand’s Pink line of athletic underwear. The models dressed up as baseball Angels, boxer Angels, rhythmic gymnastics Angels, and paratrooper Angels. The football angel above looks like she has no idea the demogorgon is about to get her. Quit your smizing and run, sis, run!

On to category two: Ethnic Pride But Make It Secret!

I thought VS had already been dragged for appropriating Native American culture by parading models down the runway in 1000 pound headdresses. And yet they still sent models down in feathers, beads and at least one modest headdress. So yes, gross, they are still doing that. But they also threw in some African beaded looks, a bit of Eastern European-looking folk dress, and a vague nod to Chinese traditional costume since they were in China and had a few Chinese models. One of which, Ming Xi, fell hard (but gracefully).

VS’s idea of punk includes two materials; red plaid and all the safety pins in China. Here’s my favorite look, which shows you can never have enough fresh takes on Angel wings. And also that Buffalo Bill’s niece is quite a craftswoman!

All in all, it looked pretty much like any other VSFS. To those that are super into it (Leonardo DiCaprio and co.), I’m sure it was satisfactory. To those that are indifferent, it happened and will happen again. To those who are morally or aesthetically opposed; why do you hate America and all that she stands for?
