Meryl Streep Kind Of Defended Dustin Hoffman Over A Groping Story
After the Harvey Weinstein dam broke, sexual misconduct accusations about Hollywood’s powerful men gushed everywhere. Two women have come forward saying Dustin Hoffman sexually assaulted them, including one who was only 17 when he was 47. It made a few news outlets run with an old 1979 Time interview where Meryl Streep said put his hand on her breast, because that’s totally a normal and non-creepy way to greet a possible co-worker. Meryl is now saying that the story was misleading.
E! News reports the old interview involved Meryl recalling an audition for Kramer vs. Kramer:
“He came up to me and said, ‘I’m Dustin – burp – Hoffman,’ and he put his hand on my breast. ‘What an obnoxious pig,’ I thought.”
How dare he! Groping anyone without permission is already pretty fucking terrible, but to lead with a burp in front of one of the world’s greatest actors? Rain Man, have you no couth? Only, there may be more to the story. A rep for Meryl reached out to E! to say the whole thing is not an “accurate rendering of that meeting.”
“There was an offense and it is something for which Dustin apologized. And Meryl accepted that.”
Or is it actually a 100% accurate rendering? Dustin is one of those turds who uses the “method actor” umbrella to get away with acting like a real asshole on set. A Meryl biography last year revealed Dustin made a sport of being a dick to her while they filmed Kramer vs. Kramer. Dustin allegedly slapped her before an emotionally charged scene, and taunted her about her boyfriend John Cazale, who died shortly before filming. So if Dustin apologized to Meryl and she accepted, okay. But I like to imagine Meryl’s forgiveness was followed-up with a sneaky offer to “advise” him on sure-fire ways to pick up an Oscar, like in such masterpieces as Little Fockers!
