Sam Taylor-Johnson Has No Interest In Watching Any “Fifty Shades” Movie

It’s no coincidence that it looks like Sam Taylor-Johnson is getting ready to run far, far away from the Fifty Shades franchise; Sam called it quits after directing Fifty Shades of Grey. She didn’t give a reason for why she wouldn’t be working on the sequels, but she did wish whoever got the thankless job “nothing but success.” Sam is talking about it again, and she goes in this time.

Sam spilled the truth about her time at the helm of the world’s most embarrassing ship during a recent interview with the Sunday Times Magazine (via Daily Mail). According to Sam, the experience was terrible and partly because she didn’t get along with Fifty Shades writer E.L. James, which is weird, because she says she gets along with everyone.

“I like everyone and I get really confused when they don’t like me. I don’t understand when I can’t navigate a person…when there’s no synergy.” After winning James’ approval, the relationship she had with the author began to crack, as she viewed Fifty Shades as a ‘dark fairytale’ while James thought of it as ‘erotic’.

Sam no longer has anything to do with the films (the second and third films have been directed by James Foley) and she wants to keep it that way, including watching them.

“I have literally zero interest. I can never say I regret it because that would just finish me off. Would I go through it again? I’d be mad.”

Obviously Sam wants to keep working, so of course she would never admit that she regrets taking a deeply regretful gig. Besides, she doesn’t need to watch Fifty Shades of Grey. Sam got with her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson when he was 18 and she was his 42-year-old boss. She’s kind of already living a real-life version of Fifty Shades’ theme of a brunette guy in a weird power dynamic relationship that makes most people feel uncomfortable to think about it.
