Katy Perry Isn’t Ashamed Of Her $25 Million Paycheck For “American Idol”

Katy Perry is the first (and so far only) person to have officially signed on to judge the next wave of desperate singing superstars on ABC’s reboot of American Idol. It was rumored she was earning a pretty penny for it. Actually, it was more like 2,500,000,000 pennies (aka $25 million). Sources told TMZ that ABC was desperate to sign a name, and Katy had all the leverage in negotiating a huge pay check. Katy recently confirmed the rumors were true about her Idol paycheck.

Getting $25 million to sit behind a desk and shout “YOU’RE GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!” seems more over the top than Katy dancing to Migos on SNL. But Katy’s not embarrassed by it. Katy told WKTU’s Cubby and Carolina in the Morning (via Gossip Cop) that yes, she is getting $25 million to do the cheap remake of American Idol, and that’s something she’s very proud of, because = feminism or something.

“I’m really proud that, as a woman, I got paid. And you know why? I got paid more than pretty much any guy that’s been on that show. And by the way, I love men, so I’m a paid woman, and I’m ready for a beautiful man.”

Katy allegedly turned down a $20 million offer to be an Idol judge back in 2012, and she reportedly turned down several eight-figure offers from The Voice. Just for reference, Mariah Carey became the highest-paid TV judge in 2012 when she got a huge (at the time) $18 million to smile and coo on Idol for one season. The only dude from Idol who took home a bigger paycheck than Katy Perry would be Simon Cowell, who took home $45 million a year as a judge and a producer.

Katy also talked about what kind of judge she’ll be. According to Katy, she doesn’t “judge“, she gives “constructive criticism“, and that she’s “polite, but firm” and “super realistic.” She adds that she always wanted to be a full-time Idol judge, but that the timing wasn’t right. T-i-m-i-n-g? Is that how we’re spelling “money” now?

Back to Katy’s dream of a paid woman finding a beautiful man. It shouldn’t be hard for her to find a beautiful man; she’s famous and rich. But in the event she’s not able to find one, I’m sure she could take that $25 million from Idol and find an animatronics factory willing to make a very life-like robot hunk for her.
