Aaron Rodgers’ Family Says He’s Avoided Them For Two Years

Last summer we learned that football player Aaron Rodgers had stopped talking to his family, and it was maybe because his girlfriend Olivia Munn was, in the words of Tommy Wiseau, tearing them apart. Aaron Rodgers’ dad has talked about the estrangement drama with his son, and the whole situation sounds very Cat’s in the Cradle mixed with a daytime soap opera.

Aaron’s brother, Bachelorette winner Jordan Rodgers, let it slip to JoJo Fletcher during an episode of The Bachelorette earlier this year that his famous brother Aaron wouldn’t be popping in to drink wine around a fancy firepit during his hometown date. Aaron had sort of distanced himself from his family. Aaron’s dad Ed Rodgers spoke to The New York Times for a piece about Aaron returning to his hometown of Chico, California. Ed claims that Aaron hasn’t spoken to his family in about two years. But do you know what Aaron has been doing for two years? Olivia Munn. Ed doesn’t come straight out and say that Aaron’s diabolical girlfriend has locked him up in her son-stealing dungeon. Instead he hints that fame has changed his son.

“One in the news is enough for us. Fame can change things.” Asked if there had been any thaw in their relationship, Rodgers’ father said, “It’s hard to tell sometimes.”

Aaron is still close to one of his college football coaches, a dude named Craig Rigsbee. Craig says that Aaron isn’t getting high off the scent of his own celebrity and feels weird about being famous. That might explain why Aaron didn’t want to make an appearance on The Bachelorette with Olivia Munn.

The New York Times asked Aaron about his family drama, but unlike Jordan and Ed, he didn’t want to talk about it.

“I just don’t think it’s appropriate talking about family stuff publicly.”

Ed, on the other hand, is glad everyone knows that his son Aaron and his Hollywood girlfriend don’t come home for family movie night.

“Airing public laundry is not what I would have chosen.” But he said he was not upset that it had happened. “It’s good to have it all come out.”

No one really knows what happened in the Rodgers family to make Aaron want to keep far away. They don’t say it’s Olivia’s fault, but the timing is pretty convincing. If Aaron ever wanted to reunite with his family, he could still bring Olivia along and try to start over. After all, her face has gone through a couple changes since they first met her two years ago, there’s a chance his family might think it’s a different person.
