Kate McKinnon Covered Leonard Cohen As Hillary Clinton On SNL Last Night

SNL played it somewhat somber for their cold open last night. A bordering-on-tears Kate McKinnon (done up as her signature impression – the newly defeated Hillary Clinton) performed the late Leonard Cohen’s signature tune “Hallelujah” solo on the piano. She closed the song by turning to the cameras, tears surfacing in her eyes, and haltingly said “I’m not giving up, and neither should you.” It looks like we’ll have to wait until next for Alec Baldwin as Trump trying to seduce the White House lunch lady while mispronouncing “apologize” and “China.”

I feel her pain. But yeah, we know – our country currently has a deep and treacherous political and social crevasse running through the center of it and one of our more important artists, Leonard Cohen, is gone. I’m just glad SNL doesn’t have the technological capacity to issue kicks to the crotch during their broadcast. Because, if they could have…

On a lighter note, political pendulum Dave Chappelle’s monologue brought some laughs and was a little more hopeful while noting that the US had electedan Internet troll” as president. NBC censors must have screamed and spun into a pearl-clutching spiral as he dropped the N-word several times and surmised that the Pulse nightclub shooter went deep cover for ISIS by jerking off a few guys. THAT’S the sort of monologue we need more of if we’re ever going to heal this nation. Watch it below.
