Lady Gaga May Play Donatella In “Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story”
When it was announced last month that the third season of American Crime Story would focus on the murder of Gianni Versace, Michael, myself, and everyone else pleaded with the television gods to spare us from Lady Gaga as Donatella Versace. Either the prayer reception up in Television Heaven isn’t too good or A-list Donatella impersonator Miss Fame was busy with a prior commitment, because Gaga is reportedly a done deal.
During a panel discussion on Sunday at Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest, Ryan Murphy responded to the suggestion that Lady Gaga would make a perfect Donatella by smiling and saying: “Ya think?” UsWeekly says that a source has confirmed to them that Lady Gaga will play Donatella Versace in Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story. Lady Gaga is in American Horror Story: Roanoke right now, and we all know her appearance in American Horror Story: Hotel landed her a totally legit Golden Globe award, which means she’s a ~serious~ actress now.
Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story takes place when Doh-nuh-telluh was still fresh(ish) faced and young, and I guess I can sort of see a young, more subdued Donatella in Gaga. But I don’t see Gaga playing the young Donatella; I see an Emmy-hungry Gaga going full-on present-day living hand puppet Donatella. Which of course makes no sense. But wait a minute…that could be what Ryan Murphy is going for? Maybe Ryan Murphy is officially sick of making TV shows that start with American, and he wants to kill any chance of ever having to make another one. Casting thespian mess Lady Gaga as Donatella Versace could be Ryan’s sneaky attempt at burning the whole franchise to the ground. Oh Ryan, that will never work. If we didn’t leave after Ross was cast as Robert Kardashian, we’re not going anywhere.
Here’s Lady Gaga promoting Joanne in Japan a few days ago. That poor pink hat. Give that hat a day off already, would you Gaga?
