Jimmy Kimmel Says That Jennifer Garner Came Up With “I’m F**king Ben Affleck”

First of all, the title of this post should have been Jimmy Kimmel Owes Actor David Krumholtz A Heartfelt Apology. You’ll understand by the end. The much-more-preferable late night “Jimmy” sat down with People and Entertainment Weekly and revealed that Ben Affleck’s live-in ex Jennifer Garner was the impetus for Kimmel’s “I’m Fucking Ben Affleck” vid from 2009.

Those of you into pop culture will remember that the vid was a response to one Kimmel’s ex Sarah Silverman had made in which she proclaimed that she was fucking Matt Damon. Damon and Kimmel have one of those on-camera showbiz friendships where they’ve done everything but hilariously 69 for the masses. Jen came up with the idea for the response. Harrison Ford loved it! Wow. I met Richard Marx once. He was mean to me.

“Jennifer Garner came up with the idea. She kind of thought it would be funny and was talking to Harrison Ford about it at a dinner, and Harrison Ford was tickled by the idea and said, ‘Well, I’d like to be in that.’ And when Harrison Ford said he might want to be a part of it, we decided to make it more like ‘We Are the World’ and bring all these celebrities in. The rest is Internet history, I guess.”

It’s good to know that Jen has a sense of humor. Then again, she’d probably have to what with Drunkie McTomBradyBlower in her life. What struck me about this exchange, though, was Kimmel’s explanation for the genesis of his friendship with Jason Bourne.

“We had a really bad show. To call them D-list celebrities would have been an upgrade,” Kimmel said about the birth of the Damon joke. “I don’t remember who was on, but I was depressed, and I was feeling pretty bad about myself and I just at the end of the show was like, ‘I want to apologize to Matt Damon. We ran out of time.’ It was just the first A-list star I could think of.”

Because I’m an intrepid weekend celebrity gossip blogger, I did some digging. Kimmel hosts a video of all the times he apologizes to Matt Damon on his show’s YouTube channel. The first of the “D-list celebrities” to appear in the video is actor David Krumholtz from that (canceled) show Numbers. Dude’s name doesn’t flick on any lightbulbs, but he’s somewhat recognizable in the face. You are a meanie, Jimmy Kimmel! He’s got feelings, too! He’s still working in some fairly big movies! Jeez, Jimmy gets a little less fat in the face and befriends celebs, and suddenly he’s too good for the lessers in Hollywood! (I would still take you over that simpering wig-tousler any day of the week, Jim.)
