Blake Shelton Sort-Of Maybe Kinda Just Endorsed Donald Trump (UPDATE)
I’m sure that while watching celebrities pick sides during this year’s US presidential election, you’ve thought to yourself, “Okay, but who is the Y’all-y Jean Giant voting for?“, because whose mind isn’t that question on the top of? You can stop wondering who Blake Shelton will be voting for this November. Blake recently spoke to Billboard about a bunch of things, including the election. Blake doesn’t say the words “I will be voting for ____“, but let’s just say he’s a big fan of a certain expired BBQ chip grease-colored candidate.
While lying down on a sofa and drinking from a giant cup filled with 12oz of vodka cut with diet soda, Blake talked about not being a fan of political correctness. Billboard then brought up an article from a Tea Party website that claimed Blake Shelton sides with Donald Trump on issues of political correctness. Blake wouldn’t say if that piece of information is true or false, but he did admit that he’s a fan of how Donald Trump says whatever dumb shit rolls around in Donald Trump’s brain.
“In country music, we’re so politically correct and so afraid to possibly upset someone. I’m not going to have the political conversation with you about Trump, or about Hillary Clinton, but I will tell you this: Whether you love him or hate him, he says what he thinks, and he has proven that you don’t always have to be so afraid. A lot of people are pulling for him, no matter how much Hollywood fights it. I see people who don’t like him go and beat up people that do like him. You tell me, who’s crazy here?”
It’s always so weird to see anyone use the words “love him” to describe Donald Trump. Just because Blake’s heart gets fluttery for Trump’s lack of filter doesn’t mean he’s ready to join the illustrious ranks of Scott Baio and Antonio Sabato Jr. by fully endorsing Trump.
“I probably wish there was another option, but there’s not.”
In non-Trump news, Blake also talked a little about his divorce from Miranda Lambert and rebound relationship with Gwen Stefani. He confessed that Adam Levine was the tattooed douche angel who helped him through that time.
“When we recorded the vocals for some of these songs, I was only six months removed from when all the crap went down…I was at rock bottom, in the middle of hell.” For a while, Shelton stayed with Adam Levine. “As close as we have been, we got even closer.”
That “we got even closer” is probably an understatement. I can only imagine how many times Blake was woken up by Adam an inch away from his face holding a soaked newspaper and whispering the words: “Please tell me that’s not your piss inside my mailbox.” Although to be fair, Adam should have known that letting a drinkin-the-sadness-away Blake Shelton crash on his couch is a real “do so at your own risk” situation.
UPDATE: Blake hopped on Twitter to swat at people (specifically Gossip Cop) for twistin’ his dang words about Donald Trump. He also let it be known that despite what he said about Trump in Billboard, he hasn’t “enforced” anyone for president.
