Michael Strahan’s Last Day On “Live!” Ended Awkwardly, Because Of Course It Did

You know you’re so goddamn happy to be done with someone when you’re willing to kiss them. That’s true hate, right there. So today was Michael Strahan’s last day on Live! With Kelly and Michael before he moves on to GMA, and shockingly enough the show didn’t end with Kelly Ripa grabbing a mic and screaming “HIT IT, GELMAN!” before launching into a high-energy karaoke version of NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.” It did, however, end with Michael being played off like his Oscar speech was running on too long.

But other than that, it wasn’t too uncomfortable. The only other awkward moment was when Kelly made a joke about there being a clearance sale on all the Live! With Kelly and Michael merchandise. Although I guess she could have made it way more awkward if she had followed it up with: “…but if you wanna score a mug for free, just wait until after the show, which is when I’ll be throwing them all in the dumpster.

As expected, they showed a montage of Michael’s “best of” moments on the show. Michael also said that Kelly will have an easier time getting rid of herpes, because he’ll never be gone-gone.

“This is a moment that I didn’t anticipate being here, at least at this point. But it’s here. And we’re going to enjoy it. I’m not dying. I’m still in the family. And I’m still available to come back if I’m ever called to co-host. I’m not going anywhere. I’m not gone. So, there we go.”

Watching Kelly and Michael pretend that they weren’t totally counting down the seconds until they could finally be free of each other’s asses for 60 minutes would have eventually gotten weird, so they brought out Matt Bomer and Carmelo Anthony to cut some of the tension. After the show, Kelly and Michael thanked everyone for how much attention they were able to squeeze out of this situation over the past three weeks. No, that didn’t happen. I am waiting patiently for that thank you, though!
