Matt Damon Thinks Actors Should Keep Their Private Lives (Including Their Sexuality) Private

Matt Damon already shat up his eyeroll-inducing thoughts on racial diversity in Hollywood, and now he’s back to shit up his thoughts about how actors should keep their sexuality and private lives to themselves. Matt Damon definitely practices what he preaches, because he has always been an enigma wrapped in seven layers of mystery. His rep has NEVER issued statements about his private life and he’s NEVER brought his wife or husband to an event. We know nothing about Matt Damon’s life!

Matt Damon is pushing that Martian movie (Side note: When are we going to find out that the liquid on Mars is actually Matt Damon’s piss?) and during an interview with The Guardian, he talked about how he’s just a regular happily married family dude with four kids and then in the next breath, he dribbled out a river of contradictions when he said that actors shouldn’t lift the curtain on their private lives. (Cut to Ben Affleck throwing his best bro-friend a “Bitch, you better not be talking about me” side-eye as he texts the paparazzi with the exact time he’s going to pick up his daughters from school.) Matt thinks that Rupert Everett would be a much bigger star today if he was still a permanent resident of the closet.

“I’m sure. When Ben and I first came on the scene there were rumours that we were gay because it was two guys who wrote a script together.

It’s just like any piece of gossip… and it put us in a weird position of having to answer, you know what I mean? Which was then really deeply offensive. I don’t want to, like [imply] it’s some sort of disease – then it’s like I’m throwing my friends under the bus. But at the time, I remember thinking and saying, Rupert Everett was openly gay and this guy – more handsome than anybody, a classically trained actor – it’s tough to make the argument that he didn’t take a hit for being out.”

Rupert Everett agrees with Matt Damon. But I don’t know, I think that Rupert Everett talking shit about everyone also played a part in why he’s not a huge (or even medium-sized) movie star. Matt went on to burp up more stuff about actors keeping their lives mysterious.

“I think it must be really hard for actors to be out publicly. But in terms of actors, I think you’re a better actor the less people know about you period. And sexuality is a huge part of that. Whether you’re straight or gay, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”

Matt Damon does have a point about how actors should keep a lot of private shit private. A good example of that is that Matt Damon is ruining the ~facade~ of Matt Damon the actor by mouth farting up his private thoughts about stuff.

And here’s Matt at the London premiere of The Martian with Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig and Jessica Chastain.
