Ariel Winter Is Free

May 17, 2015 / Posted by:

Pugsley Addams’ other sister Ariel Winter has been officially emancipated from her mom Chrystal Workman. The Modern Family actress, now 17, was taken from her mom in November 2012 by Child Protective Services. Her mom’s one of those stage mama crazies that make Abby Lee Miller look serene and reasonable. She’s reportedly got a long history of tuning up on her kids both physically and mentally. Well, wave bye-bye to your child laborer, Chrystal. At least you’ll retain that sparkling jewel of a name.

Ariel Tweeted about her newfound freedom (via TMZ):

I am now officially emancipated!!! I’m really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity. Most importantly I want to thank @shanelle_gray and my father for their special support regarding this matter, I really couldn’t have done it without them. Thank you to all of my family, friends, and fans who have supported me through all of my endeavors in life, and have encouraged me. Thank you for making my life so special! I can’t wait to embark on my new adventures.

Word is that her big sister Shanelle Gray (who appeared on the late, lamented One Life to Live for about a year as Tina’s daughter) had the same experience with mom 20 years prior. I realize that regulating reproduction is way fascist, but can’t we just intro a teeny, tiny psych test or perhaps some sort of licensing bureau in regards to parenting? Say, if the Rorschach blot is making you see “child to pummel and terrorize until it gives up my rightful compensation,” you might not get the OK to spawn just yet?
