Open Post: Hosted By Brad Pitt Teaching You How To Pronounce David Oyelowo’s Name Through Song

While continuing to look like he’s doing Robert Evans cosplay, Brad Pitt presented Selma’s David Oyelowo with the Breakthrough Performance Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala last night. Brad Pitt is one of Selma’s producers. Since we’re going to be seeing and hearing David Oyelowo’s name a lot this awards season and beyond, the greased up human bong in drug dealer glasses gave everyone a lesson on how to pronounce his name. In my head, I’ve been pronouncing his last name as “Oy-low-oh,” but according to Brad Pitt, I’ve got it all wrong. When Brad Pitt pronounces David Oyelowo’s last name, it sounds like he’s trying to ask for ice at a Mexican restaurant. The audience wasn’t getting it, so Brad taught them how to say it with the help of Coldplay and a soccer chant. Nobody will ever entertain the hos at the PSIFF the way that Drunk Mimi did, but Brad Pitt tried. via The Telegraph:

“It’s ok, it’s alright, I’ve been there – and I’m here to help,” he deadpanned as the audience laughed. Pitt then led the audience in a rousing singalong to teach them the correct pronunciation – “O-yellow-oh”.

Who knew that Palm Springs weed turns Brad Pitt into Matthew McConaughey. I thought his arms were going to shrink three inches and he was going to rip his shirt open before banging on some bongos. One more toke and that would’ve happened.
