Hot Slut Of The Day!

The Genie (as played by John Ales) from the 90s I Dream of Jeannie knock-off You Wish!

Today, TGIF means Time2 Get In-real-life Fucked-up-on-Franzia, because after a long, torturous work week, some of you just want to wrap your mouth around a boxed wine spigot and suck the pain away while staring at the wall. But to hos in the 90s, TGIF meant it was time to fill our brains with 2 hours of TV dripping in wholesomeness and pure sap. ABC’s TGIF block of family friendly cheese didn’t only spit out hits (see: Full House, Just The Ten Of Us, Family Matters, Boy Meets World and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch), it also wet farted up flops and one of those flops was You Wish!

The Bewitched knock-off for the Capri Sun-drinking set known as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch was a gigantic TGIF hit, so ABC decided to knock off I Dream of Jeannie. But instead of the genie being a hot  Barbara Eden in a midriff, the genie was a Yellow Pages Yanni look-alike who looked like the sleaziest asshole at the least popular club in Rome, Italy circa 1991 (I think I just described my Afghan Hound dreamboat Adrien Brody). The genie lived with an all-American family after he popped out of a rug they bought at some dusty antique shop. You Wish premiered in 1997 and it only lasted 7 episodes before ABC snuffed it out. The world just wasn’t ready for a genie who looked like he sweat Drakkar Noir, always kept a bottle of Spanish Fly in his pocket and worked a spiral perm better than most high school girls.

I was already too old for TGIF when You Wish came out, so I don’t remember that much about it. But I do remember that on one Friday, Winston from Sabrina, the Teenage Witch crossed over to all the shows and changed the time period of each of them for the night. He shifted Boy Meets World to the 40s and You Wish to the 50s.  It was GROUNDBREAKING television and the minds of hos who witnessed it are still boggling.

Here’s You Wish’s intro and the first few minutes of the pilot episode. James Cameron was once quoted as saying that You Wish’s special effects laid down the groundwork for Avatar’s special effects.
