Hot Slut Of The Day!

Hostess Potato Chips, the Head Bitch of Potato Chips in Canada through the 1980s.

It’s Labor Day in America and it’s Labour Day in Canada, so millions of us will spend the day overworking our digestive organs by shoveling pounds of hamburger meat, deep fried deliciousness and chips into our wide open eating holes. So it’s the perfect day to pay tribute to Canada’s former King of Chips (or “Croustilles” if you’re French Canadian and fancy like that). When I first found out that a company named Hostess made chips,  I nearly got Diabetes thinking of delicious Twinkie chips. (We already have cookie chips, so I hope we’re not far away from getting Twinkie chips). But Hostess Potato Chips and Hostess the Twinkie makers are different companies.

Wikipedia says that Hostess Potato Chips were born in Breslau, Ontario in 1935. General Foods bought Hostess Potato Chips in 1959 and turned it into the God of Canadian potato chips. Hostess Potato Chips came in a bunch of flavors including regular, ketchup, BBQ and salt & vinegar. In the 1970s, they made Canadians barf up pieces of their stomach parts by coming out with fruit-flavored potato chips. Even though their orange, cherry and grape-flavored potato chips were a flop, they continued to slay the other potato chip brands through the 80s and into the early 90s. But in 1996, sales weren’t what they used to be, so PepsiCo, who acquired Hostess in 1992, re-branded them as Lay’s. You can still buy Hostess Potato Chips at some stores and online, but apparently it’s just Lay’s potato chips in a Hostess bag.

Here’s a Hostess Potato Chips commercial from the 90s starring their fat stoner mascots, the Munchies.

“I got the munchies on my mind….” That song should really be the official stoner anthem.
