After Michael Che Was Dragged For Sharing Jokes About Simone Biles, He Declared, “I Was Hacked!”

July 30, 2021 / Posted by:

This week, we saw gymnast GOAT Simone Biles withdraw from both her scheduled team events and individual all-around events at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, as a personal choice to put her mental health and overall well-being first. Lots of people applauded her for trusting her gut instincts and choosing to back out. “I wonder if any assholes who can’t touch their damn toes will also have something to say about this” wasn’t a question anyone had to ask themselves because of course, they came out in record numbers to throw hate at Simone Biles’ decision. One person who seemed to really want to talk about Simone Biles was Saturday Night Live’s Michael Che. He even went so far as to suggest he’d be talking about Simone Biles in an upcoming stand-up set, which was followed by sharing a few jokes on his Instagram Stories. And after he got shit for it, Michael joked that he was hacked.

Colin Jost Was Tricked Into Making A Joke About Scarlett Johansson On “Saturday Night Live”

December 21, 2020 / Posted by:

There’s an annual holiday tradition at Saturday Night Live, in which Colin Jost and his Weekend Update co-host Michael Che will write jokes for each other, in secret, then force each other to perform said jokes live, with no prior knowledge of what they might be reading off their cue cards. Personally, I’d rather my co-worker surprise me with a cheese plate, but a gift is a gift. Usually, the jokes are made at the expense of the other in an embarrassing way, like Colin Jost writing a joke for Michael Che which implied he’s been fucking Sanderson sisters-levels of women (as you’ll see). But this year, Colin’s wife of two months was dragged into the cringefest as well.

Michael Che Might Have Subtly Addressed The Backlash From His Caitlyn Jenner Joke

November 4, 2019 / Posted by:

It’s Michael Che’s job to read the news on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment. But for the second week in a row, he is the news. Last week, Michael Che pissed off viewers with a transphobic joke about Caitlyn Jenner. This week, he delivered a series of jokes that appeared to be self-aware of the backlash.

Michael Che Went There And Called Caitlyn Jenner “Fella” On SNL

October 28, 2019 / Posted by:

Michael Che once again has decided to remind us that he’s still Saturday Night Live’s second most likely reason for an NBC spokesperson to work overtime on a Monday. On Saturday night, Michael Che made a joke about Caitlyn Jenner during Weekend Update. Except he didn’t call her Caitlyn, and he didn’t call her “her.” Casual transphobia? Scarlett Johansson is wondering if she picked the wrong Update host.

Scarlett Johansson Was Colin Jost’s Date To The Emmys

September 18, 2018 / Posted by:

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost have yet another set of precious memories to paste in their Celebrity Relationship Milestones book that your agent gives you when you hook up with another famous person.

Last night’s next step took place at the Emmys, where Colin co-hosted with his SNL Weekend Update partner Michael Che. Scarlett and Colin made their first official red carpet debut back in April at the Avengers: Infinity War premiere, then went a little fancier a month later at the Met Gala. Last night was their official awards show couples walk on the…what color would we call the Emmy’s carpet last night? Rice Krispy Treat beige? Sure.

Scarlett wore a Balmain dress, while Colin continued to look like that one groomsman at his high school buddy’s wedding who can’t wait to run to his car and trade in his dress shoes for sneakers. But all that really matters here is ScarJo’s dress, which looks what a housekeeper at a resort would do if asked to fold bath towels into a gown instead of a swan.

Once inside, it wasn’t about Scarlett anymore. Here’s Colin and Michael’s monologue, in which they began with a shout out to the #MeToo movement.

Then they went on to talk about TV’s diversity problem. That’s when I’m sure Scarlett considered standing up and volunteering her services as a recently-woke diversity expert. “Pro tip, television: In the event you do create more diverse characters, try not to hire people that look like me to play them.
