Open Post: Hosted By Liza Minnelli Singing And Smoking While On Her Way To The Oscars

April 29, 2022 / Posted by:

The 2022 Oscars aired just over a month ago (bitch, it feels like 134 years), and, while so-and-so and the other guy may have dominated the headlines, we mustn’t forget the return of Liza Minnelli, who presented the award for Best Picture with Lady Gaga. A week ago Liza’s longtime collaborator, Michael Feinstein, said the legendary entertainer was disappointed by the appearance. She’d planned to present in a director’s chair, but a stage manager insisted that she use a wheelchair. This last-minute decision left Liza “shaken”, and she didn’t like how she came across onstage.

Two days ago Michael uploaded a video of Liza on the way to the Academy Awards, and she seems a helluva lot more lively than she did on TV. The clip shows 76-year-old Liza sitting in a car (sans seatbelt), smoking a ciggie (sans ashtray), and belting out the old song, “(It’s Gonna Be A) Great Day!” It’s serving, “the Uber from the pre-drink to the bar.” Except without the water bottle filled with vodka.

Liza Minnelli’s Longtime Collaborator Michael Feinstein Says She Was Sabotaged During This Year’s Oscars

Most of us will always remember the 94th Academy Awards ceremony as the moment Will Smith lost his mind, but many other historic moments transpired afterward. A notable segment took place when a wheelchair-bound Liza Minnelli was escorted out by Lady Gaga. It was a sweet, yet awkward appearance because seeing Liza in that state caused many to worry about her physical state. However, in true Hollywood fashion her wheelchair ride may have been a farce.

The 2022 Oscars Closed The Show By Having Liza Minnelli Announce The Best Picture Winner

March 28, 2022 / Posted by:

Lady Gaga was not up for Best Actress at last night’s Oscars, but she managed to nab a spot in the show’s grand finale as Liza Minnelli’s valet! Yes, Gaga missed out on Oscar but was a part of a show-stopping moment by helping a living legend announce the final award, Best Picture. I mean, I don’t know why she’s dressed like some kind of waiter at a gay cabaret show, but actually–I just said that back to myself and it does make sense why.

Liza Minnelli Was Feeling Shady When Asked About Renée Zellweger As “Judy”

February 4, 2020 / Posted by:

I fully expect Renée Zellweger to get a standing ovation as she rises to accept her Academy Award for playing Judy Garland in Judy this Sunday. But there’s at least one person who won’t be standing, in fact I imagine Liza Minnelli will be sucking her teeth as she’s splayed across a velvet fainting couch surrounded by “her Oscar for ‘Cabaret’” which “sits on a low table alongside a copy of a 1972 Time magazine with Minnelli on the cover. On a table next to the couch are her Tonys, while a collection of additional awards crowd a sideboard near the entryway” as she’s described in a recent Variety interview. Liza’s not here for Renée’s portrayal of her mother. In fact, when the subject was brought up, she deployed shade so penetrating and complete, PG&E’s still reporting outages and is scheduling rolling blackouts for the next 10 years in order to recover.

Liza Minelli Thinks Her Mom Judy Garland Would Have Laughed At Lady Gaga In “A Star Is Born”

June 16, 2019 / Posted by:

At 73 and a showbiz forever person, Liza Minelli has seen and done it all. When you’re the old-school gay icon daughter of history’s very first gay icon (Oscar Wilde doesn’t count because he didn’t do any movies), you’ve been there and back, won the Tony for it, probably snorted coke off that Tony, and kept on jazz hands-ing your way through life with aplomb. So when these up and coming little floozies try to emulate your mom’s classics, you need to show them a seat. To celebrate Pride Month, Liza with a Z briefly opened her parasol over Lady Gaga’s version of her mom Judy Garland’s classic A Star Is Born.

Liza Minnelli Has No Interest In The Judy Garland Biopic Starring Renée Zellweger

June 15, 2018 / Posted by:

When it was first announced last year that Renée Zellweger was going to play Judy Garland in a biopic, I was skeptical to say the least. But then three months ago, the first picture of Renée as Judy in Judy was released, and I realized it wasn’t going to be the three-alarm mess I had anticipated. I almost got a little excited for it. The same can’t be said for Liza Minnelli, who recently let it be known that she wants nothing to do with Renée as her mama.
