Just the other day I was wondering what was going on in the case against Asia Argento by Jimmy Bennett, who accused her of sexually assaulting him in 2013 when he was 17 and she was 37. And after I remembered the case and the details, I dropped some sandpaper into my Vitamix, blended it up until it was powder, and then used a funnel to pour it into my ear hole so that I could sandblast that dark-sidedness from my brain. But there’s an update, and the update is that Jimmy hasn’t yet filed a police report and investigators haven’t been able to get a hold of him, so the case is stalled.
Usually when a famous person loses their job after being accused of harassment and/or abuse, they might hide out until they think it’s safe to start a comeback. But Asia Argento – who was accused of sexually assaulting a then-17-year-old Jimmy Bennett when she was 37 – has decided that about six weeks away from X Factor Italy has been enough of a time-out, and she wants to go back.
Do I even need to specify that it’s extremely awkward and uncomfortable? Well, maybe for the people who missed Part 1 of Asia Argento’s extremely awkward and uncomfortable interview with DailyMailTV. The DailyMailTV dropped the second half of their exclusive interview with Asia Argento today. Yesterday Asia revealed that she was very angry after learning her boyfriend Anthony Bourdain took his own life. Now Asia is talking about the accusations she faced on the internet from people who accused her of being the reason Anthony died.
Before Asia Argento was accused of having sex with a 17-year-old named Jimmy Bennett in 2013, she might have been known as Rose McGowan’s fellow #MeToo soldier and friend. But ever since Asia began to fight against the accusations that she’s a sexual predator, Rose has slowly (very slowly) moved away from her. Eventually Rose accused Asia of being a major creep and liar. Asia isn’t happy that Rose has been running her mouth, and is threatening Rose with a lawsuit.
The Daily Beast is reporting that Asia Argento accuser Jimmy Bennett was himself accused of stalking, threatening, and “sexual offenses” by an ex-girlfriend in 2015. This situation is multi-layered like an onion. Except, it’s the kind of onion you wouldn’t use in a salad, or to make French onion soup, and you certainly wouldn’t pair it with peppers and put it on a cheesesteak. This onion should be thrown in a dumpster and the lid should be firmly shut with a satisfying clang after it.
There are some sequels we want and get deeply excited about, and then there are the sequels that really should have been workshopped through a focus group first. Asia Argento is currently fighting in the court of public opinion against her accuser Jimmy Bennett, and she recently revealed that she’s trying to make #MeToo: Phase Two happen. The goal of which is no doubt going to have some people saying: “Uh, I think I’ll stick with the original, thanks.”
