The Tumor In Michael Douglas's Froat Is Gone
The National Enquirer had Michael Douglas booking a one-way ticket to heaven through Travelocity, but he tells Matt Lauer in an interview airing tomorrow morning on Today that Jesus is going to have to find another angel to play Gordon Gekko in their cloud production of Wall Street, because he won't be checking in anytime soon. After going through chemo and radiation treatment, Michael says there's no trace of the tumor in his froat and he's on his way to a full recovery.
Michael tells Matt, "I feel good, relieved. The tumor is gone. But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I think the odds are with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer [is] that I've got it beat. I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I guess there's not a total euphoria. I'll probably take a couple of months of getting checked out. But it's been a wild six-month ride. All of a sudden the affection from my family, from my friends, and from my fans hit me at a much deeper level than I would have ever imagined before. And it gave me a really new appreciation of just how valuable, how precious good friends are and family. And it's not that I disregarded them before but there's a much deeper feeling."
Michael's now eating like he's got a Kirstie Alley in his stomach and says he's put about 12 pounds of chunk on his body and he's got 20 more to go.
And I thought finding a half-eaten, old bag of Mother's Circus Animal Cookies in my freezer today was good news. But finding out that Michael Douglas will soon be well enough to star in ANOTHER Romancing the Stone movie is even better news.

Update: Make the three sock puppets, now with RedRow.
HVP has to do with the Michael Douglas cancer story like a bowl of Jell-o has to do with the Tucscon massacre. By pretending to be quite reasonable, you are not fooling anyone... I hope.
Full-blown throat cancer, in the scheme of things, is not even on the radar as far as being caused by HVP. Instead of misleading people and giving them pause to enjoy sex, why don't you curl up and die, instead of trolling gay-themed boards, and meddling?
First I thought, why is Kirk Douglas signing that poster?
Looking at that photo, it sadly doesn't look like Michael will be much longer for this world.
That makes me very sad :o(
I always loved him... I am hoping for the best :o(
Throat cancer can be caused by HPV, smoking, drinking, bad luck, genes and so on......
Actually the religious nutters use HPV as a way of promoting abstinece.
By making people aware that this virus exists, and there is a vaccine, surely that's a great thing? Oral sex is great and normal, but not without risks, STD wise. However if you get vaccinated, you massively reduce that risk, and can go out there and have fun.
His was probably the smoking and drinking though....
Still the HPV vaccine has been a great breakthrough for ALL, and something I find the church tries to hide. As you can see from my avi, I'm an atheist to my very core, I have no problem with some of the comments....infact confused. Maybe the message is delievered a little differently in Europe?
YES!!! yay, glad for him, AND he came out of stage 4 right?

The Michael Douglas throat cancer story has absolutely nothing to do with HVP. Period. Anyone trying to inject his oral/anal abstinence political viewpoint- there is now one poster with two sock puppets here doing that- is full of shit, trying to mislead people, and using someone's misfortune to get across their ancient, homophobic point of view. Drop dead and get out of people's lives.
Best wishes to Douglas and his family.

Sorry for the long message, especially as I am not known here, I just read and remain in the shadows... however having read the last few comments I feel I must say a few words...
Actually here, in Europe, people are trying to get the health system to cover the vaccines against HPV also for boys (as is freely given to girls starting 13 to 16 in order to avoid cervical cancer).
80% of females has HPV at some stage of their life, most of them without further consequences. However 1 from 10 males without HPV protection will get cancer.
The ration of people getting HPV related cancer is of 7 males for 1 female.
It has been already established that HPV carriers can pass this through unprotected sex, including oral sex and I find pretty sad that people disregard this information so easily. If this was more openly discussed people would be more aware of the risks and this issue would be avoided.
At this point the vaccine is not given for free to boys not because of the lack of evidence but because of cost effective issues. A whole shot (3 times) costs around EUR400 and it would be too expensive to provide this for free to the population, it is cheaper to attend the minor cases of cancer that will definitely surfice.
However this may change in future as in the last 5 years the cases of cancer due to HPV have more than doubled.
And still people don't know much about it, boys don't hear about these things and think that oral sex is safe (avoids pregnancy! oh boys...).
I'm all for getting the HPV jap for boys and girls.
Ok, now I am done... sorry for the rant...
Allow me to summarize: MD's froat cancer was caused either by smoking, drinking, or HPV. He's either in remission or likely to keel over tomorrow. I told this story to someone much younger, who said, "Who's Michael Douglas?"

Anonymousss/Mud Turtle: You didn't need to mention your homophobic church in your post, it was not necessary. This bullshit has been going on for decades- that's how old I am- you troll the boards looking for the slightest excuse to spread your oral sex rumor, and the Michael Douglas story is the flimsiest excuse possible. He got his cancer from smoking and drinking, not what you and your lame-ass, homophobic church go tsk-tsk at, and try to discourage whenever possible. Fuck off. Linking this unfortunate event for your asshole church's agenda is typical of your base instincts and ignorance.
People- beware of trolls.
Professor VP: There was no mention of church or religion in my post, so I have no clue why you're bringing those subjects up. There was also no mention of refraining from oral sex. HPV can be spread via intercourse as well, but no one says to abstain from that. The fact is that HPV must be treated or it will be passed on. Do some research.

Scroll down to see what it says about Oropharyngeal cancer.
When Michael Douglas was on Letterman a couple of months ago, he stated that the cancer was most likely attributable to his drinking, rather than smoking. Since he indulged in both, I don't think he was trying to defend his behavior, but rather repeating what his doctors told him was the likely contributing factor.

Anoymoussss aka Mud Turtle: This myth has been propogated by your puritanical sick-ass church for decades. The fact is, you don't like anyone having oral sex. No, I'll be more specific: You and your church don't like MEN having oral sex with each other. And that is why you spread this bullshit. Go fuck yourself, unprotected.
I don't know about his case, but I have read medical literature that states unprotected oral sex with an HPV carrier can cause throat cancer.

Glad to see he is better for now. I think all of us have lost too many loved ones to cancer.
@Anonymousss What you wrote, aside from being incorrect, is a cruel hoax, in that some people are sufficiently unfamiliar with the topic, and might actually believe your hogwash. Douglas was a bigtime drinker and smoker. We know these things have an established cause and effect relationship with throat cancer, among other cancers. HVP can cause cervical and anal cancer; it has nothing to do with this story. Your ignorance, carelessness and the-hell-with-everybody attitude is showing.

@Professor VP: Nope. His cancer was caused by HPV. Not many people realize that you can pass mouth and throat cancers on by having unprotected oral sex with someone who's a carrier.

Another victim of cigarettes. I understand he relishes his privacy, and would like to put a happy spin on things, but what his p.r. is putting out is not credible. He would do better, in the time he has left, to speak out about tobacco, how it is just not worth it, how it doesn't have to be this way, how life doesn't have to end this way.

Totally! He and his wife are heavy smokers and I doubt they quit.

This maybe true, but Michael Douglas and his wife are heavy smokers. There are plenty of pics of them smoking like chimneys and Douglas was a heavy smoker for YEARS. My family remembers watching him smoke during breaks of Streets of San Francisco. He was such a heavy smoker, he would chew sunflower seeds during the filming of the episodes. If you watch any of them, you will see him eating sunflower seeds and spitting out the shells. He was pretty bad.

@ CandyPerfumeGirl - Cancers of the throat and neck are unlike other types of cancer in the sense that they are easier to treat, even in advanced stages. Stage 4 of the throat typically means that a.) the tumor was large, b.) it went to a few lymph nodes (not a big deal when the lymph nodes are in the neck), and c.) the patient was of advanced age. As soon as I heard about the type of cancer Michael Douglas had, I knew the odds were in his favour. Doesn't mean it won't come back or be a problem, but typically these kinds of cancers are easy to eradicate.
Awesome news...this actually DOES make me happy.

The Enquirer is so gross with their "___ Months to Live!", "On Death's Door!" headlines. True or not, its just totally bad fucking taste when you're talking about real people battling serious illnesses.
Good for him and his family. Cancer sucks ass.
I'm so glad I finally get to use my cheap, good for nothing, coldblooded boss as an example for something nice. He had throat cancer back in 05. Lost mad weight. Went a year without a voice. Then beat the fuck out of that shit and it never came back.
So here's hoping Michael Douglas beats that motherfucker for good too. And Catherine stops blowing her Marlboro 100's in his face.
I'll never get over that scene when he's eating Sharon Stone out in that bed with the mirror on the ceiling. I miss the 90ies. And premature orgasms.

I second that Uncle! It'll be 2 yrs on Wed that I lost my mom to stage 4 glioblastoma. She got a whopping 7 weeks from start to finish.

Remission in medical speak means there is no sign of cancer at the time of doing a follow up to see the effectiveness his chemo/radiation treatmnets. It could still be at his primary site microscopically or it could have travelled through the lymph and/or blood system somewhere else. Just because his scans are negative right now, doesn't mean that his scans will be a month from now. If he did in fact have stage 4 cancer, he will be battling this monster again. Its not a matter of if but of when. May he and his family have all the courage and love to survive this.
I can't hate on this so I wish him all the best.

I don't know about this. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer six months ago, and now he's suddenly cancer free? Just cause the cancer isn't detectable doesn't mean you're in remission; especially if all you had removed was the tumor (if that). Best of luck to him though.

I'd like to believe what he has said here and likewise with Aretha but for some reason, both just seem like bullshit. Hope I'm wrong but both of them have some nasty cancers to have if ya have to have cancer. Both seem to beat it really quick. I don't know. I thought it took longer. Anyone? My boyfriend's treatment took longer than MD's. MD seems like he's been sick for like 2 weeks.
Is it because of remissions? It seems to me that all too often you hear these words and then bam, they're dead.
