Ed O'Neill Did Not Verbally Slap Jane Lynch, Okay
TV Guide Canada published a quote they say came out of Ed O'Neill's mouth about how he feels his Modern Family TV wife Sofia Vergara should've won the Emmy instead of Jane Lynch for Glee. The quote went a little something like this: "I love Jane, honestly I do. I'm dying to star in one of Christopher Guest's movies alongside her, but I don't think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part. [Sue Sylvester] is just a one-note character."
When it got back to Jane Lynch's ears (or eyes), she responded with a simple: "Let it go, that's what we're doing." But it turns out, it didn't come out of Ed O'Neill's mouth like that. Either somebody was drunk (most likely) or a Sue Sylvester-hating force transcribed the interview, because TV Guide Canada issued a retraction and published the real quote:
“I’m one of Jane Lynch’s biggest fans. I love Jane Lynch. She is a genius. But at the same time I said ‘Sophia could win’ because … and I’ve only seen Glee a couple of … I’ve only seen Glee once. But I thought Jane’s role is rather one-dimensional. It’s kind of strident. It’s always kind of the same. I’ve seen her be much better. So I thought ‘Sofia’s funnier,’ and I think she is in these two comparative roles. Anyway, Jane won. But I was hoping that Sophia would."
And Ed tried to clear it up some more by saying these words to EW:
“Last week I spoke to a group of journalists and one quoted me supposedly saying of Jane Lynch, ‘I don’t think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part.’ I never said those words and transcripts of the press conference attest to that fact. Of course I root for my dear friends Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen (and all of my colleagues on our show) at Emmy time, but I absolutely never said, nor do I believe that Jane — whom I think is an enormous talent — was undeserving of the award. I reached out to her yesterday to ensure she knew I’d been misquoted but I wanted to clear this up publicly as well.”
But Ed still said Jane's character was one-dimensional and that she's done better work... Okay, okay, I'll drop the ladle and stop stirring the pot filled with this non-story. We can go all go back to sitting on the couch with our hand in our safe place.

Maybe it's the fever still acting up, but it sounds like the real quote and the "misquoted" quote mean exactly the SAME. "I didn't say that the knife was blue, I said that the knife was navy" does not good backpedalling make.
Also, if Ed has only seen ONE episode of Glee how the hell does he know what Jane Lynch's character is like? Even I, who don't like Glee, have watched it more than once in order to be able to justify why I don't like it. Sue Sylvester is my homegirl, though.
"Modern Family" and "Glee" tie at being my favorite show. I've seen every single episode of both programs. Some more than once (thanks to Hulu). I LOVE them both!
Actually Sue Sylvester is a very complicated character. Hardly one-note. The first episode with her sister put tears in my eyes. She sings. She sexed it up with Will. Her tv news spots are ludicrous. She's mean. She's WICKED. She's tender. ONE NOTE?! Are you kidding?!?!?
Gloria from MF is seriously a one-note character. She is teeth, tits and hair. Gorgeous. Supremely funny. Wonderful in every regard. But one-note. She has feelings. She is human. She delivers great facial expressions and one-liners. But her character is limited. She can only do as much as the writers give her.
Either way they are both winners.
Jane Lynch is simply H-O-T right now, and she has been gaining in fans steadily now for quite a long time. Her popularity puts her a cut above. It just is what it is. She deserved to win.
Ed is a gentleman. He was supporting his costar. Nothing wrong with that!

Glee is kiddie stuff and Ed O'Neill is right about Jane Lynch's character. I always feel that O'Neill is underrated as an actor. Someone should give him an Emmy.

Who are you calling silly cow?
lynch is a brilliant comic actress, but her turn on 'glee' is the very definition of a one-note character and it has worn very thin...but then, the whole show is just a thin re-hash of 'fame' which was no great shakes itself.
Yay! Joe Schmoe is JOAN!!!!!
loves it!

When speaking with media types opt for easy to digest sound bites and avoid complicated explanations.
I can't say shit because I do not watch either one of these shows.
I've heard such things too.
I've heard such things from people outside H-Wood.
Incidentally, I've heard about Dave Chappelle being the same way from locals too.
Funny people, who are nice, have always been cool in my book.
Jane Lynch is funny and if she chooses not to feud here, then I'll be firmly in love.
I haven't watched MF, but all I know is I saw Sofia present at the MTV awards and I was embarrassed at how awkward and unfunny it was. She just seemed like a latina bimbo caricature, but not at all endearing or cute, just...ugh. I was cringing while watching all 30 seconds of it. Maybe because I am Latina, and I am like "thanks Sofia, for continuing the sterotype!"
Ed is supposedly one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.
Love Ed love Jane like Modern Family never watched Glee... Whatever...

I hate Glee but I like Jane Lynch. Go figure.
Re: Sophia Viagara...her "talents" as a comedic actress are simply replaceable. Nadine Velasquez did it better on My Name is Earl and she's got a hot body too. Therefore, Sofia Viagara is about 999,999 in a million.

So basically he said exactly what they reported. Be a man and have some fucking balls. There was nothing wrong with what he said.
I watch Glee, aka the Lea Michelle show, fairly often, and the Sue character isn't one-note; to the writers' credit, they change things up with her on occasion. Jane Lynch really is the only reason to watch it.
TV is pretty shitty, and even decent shows jump the shark within a few episodes. IMO, the best show on these days is Raising Hope, which is nothing but one-dimensional characters.

It was worth all of the hullabaloo just to read the comments from white people offended by Sofia Vergara's "stereotypical" Latina character.

Fuck Glee. I hate that show for many reasons:
1) Musicals don't tickle my fancy (way too homosexual for me, and I'm a homo)
2) I went to school with one of the actors on the show, we were really close and I never saw him again, then I see him on TV and I know he is wiping his ass with $100s!! Kudos to him though
3) Most of all, I despise the weekly, vapid, pointless 'GLEEEEEE' status updates on Facebook!
Aw fuck, I love Al Bundy!

HAHAHA! We're on the same wave length, cuz I was just puffing on my 12 inch ciggie holder and lounging in my caribou slippers and silk negligee thinking "Ed O'Neill is not me..ummmm.. I mean Joan Collins"

I like Ed O'Neill. I like Jane Lynch. I never saw one episode of either show so I don't care. Though I'm sure Glee isn't her best work, watch her in any Christopher Guest film for her genius.
aaaawwwww! fuck all three of them! even though i love "Al Bundy", Jane Lynch's "Dr. Freeman" on "Two and a Half Men", and nobody can deny that Sofia Vergara... well.. uumm.. yeah.. she has nice boobies. but, come on!
yes, actors/actresses... get the fuck over yourselves! you're getting circle jerk "awards" for doing relatively nothing. whoever gets the "award" is the one stuck with the problem of which trashcan to throw it in at the end of the night. holy shnikies! i'm soo tired of these shitbags acting like these trinkets really mean ANYTHING!
...i gotta go breathe into a paper bag.

so he saw the show once and from that one time could determine that the character was one dimensional. The powers of Al Bundy.
I don't watch Glee but clips I've seen of Sue Sylvester are hilarious. I watched the first two episodes of Modern Family because I kept hearing about how it was "so funny." I didn't laugh once and had no interest in the rest of the season. Maybe it got better.

Wake me when this really happens.
Ed O'Neil is no Joan Collins.

I guess I need to watch Modern Family more, because last time I checked, Sofia's portrayal of a stereotypical sexy Latina trophy wife was one-note, too.

Silly rabbit.
TV Guide just had a LOOOOOOK AT MEEEEEEEE moment!!!!
Mission accomplished I guess...
