Not to generalize, but all the Russian women I know are tough as nails. They have to be, because Russian men are mean drunks. It's hard for me to reconcile my impression of the Russian people I got to know through literature to the ones I got to know when I moved to NYC.
Although there is one girl I knew through a friend and we used to all go for drinks together and she was silly and toothless. It was interesting to see her outfits because even though she was raised in New York, she had a little bit of the old world fashion sense.
