Once again, the marketing team behind Sex and the City 2: Cougar Mummies Gone Wild have taken Photoshoppery to extreme levels with their latest poster. Originally, the other hos were supposed to pose for the poster as well, but they ran for the nearest safe house after staring into the "soul devouring" demonic alien eyes on Sarah Jessica Parker's face. RELEASE THE KRAKEN on this demon!

sushi - not to make a mutual admiration society - but you are absolutely right. in real life, if someone is a self-centered commitment phobe who treats his wife like crap - DONT expect him to become mr right, cause he never will. the movies are everything the book never wanted - the book meant to show us that we can be happy, and strive for love, and have sex, and not have a husband and 1.4 kids - and STILL be perfectly happy (except the occasional weep, wishing we did have the fairy tale). in real life, imho - being single beats trying to live with another human being all to hell. i say that as someone who was single for 8 years, and "lookin for love," and has now lived with someone for six years. a good guy, mostly. still like single so much better.

the problem with SATC movies is this: in real life, some of us dont find mates. but if we are lucky, we DO have friends who will always be there, ultimately, when we need them.
i think the first movie would have been a million times better if she DIDNT marry big at the end, and instead STILL HAD A FABULOUS LIFE.
so that the MILLIONS of us women out there who DONT get the fairy tale but DO have pretty damn swell lives anyway, we could relate.
that was the mistake in that movie. that, and samantha not wanting the fine young hunk who adored her. by the time you are her age, you know to take the man who adores you, and stop being an idiot who finds adoration boring.

And yet throughout the entire series, he was really the self-centered commitment phobe who treated her like crap, then treated his wife like crap, travels to Paris to sweep her off her feet, then gets cold feet. oh man it was messed up...I think they called her a tranny horseface or something like that...but the really messed up part is how they portrayed her...orange spray tan, eyes way too close together in that yellow Chanel dress she wore to the Oscars with this joker smile...she didn't say a word, they just had her smiling that joker smile in all sorts of ridiculous situations...I think she was in the forest trying to jump for an apple on a branch or something.
I'm making it sound much tamer than it was...it was kind of harsh. :(

Agreed! At least she embraces her assets and flaws. I dig that about her. I sat next to her on the subway once about 15 years ago, maybe more, and I have t say that she's pretty much unchanged. I mean, she'd older we all are, but she hasn't had any work done as far as I can see. This was before SATC. Before the mega fame. I imagine she doesn't ride the subway anymore.
That girl has something. Even in shorts and clogs, as she was that day, she had a kind of gorgeousness. Hard to explain, but I get why she's still getting leading lady roles despite the less-than-conventional beauty. She's compelling.

The other tired thing too is that aging woman has hot actor guy who treats her like gold and she doesn't want that committment? Why not let Samantha grow as a character? Being a slut who fucks everything gets even less appealing when you are post-50.

Seasons 1-4 of the show were amazing. 5-6 and were kinda pushing it (ya know, like the last few seasons of friends?). The first movie was stupid. I said this on the last SATC thread..this show was not meant to be syndicated on network TV or made into a movie. Everything that was good about it got censored out.

I hated the show when she started dating Berger. And even more so when she started dating Mikhail B.
The movie was ridiculous. It was so formulaic. Gee, Charlotte adopted so now she'll be pregnant! Gee, commitment-phobe man leaves girl at the altar!
What was really dumb about the movie to me was: (1) He left her at the altar because he couldn't handle the wedding planning? and (2) Betrayed Miranda made a comment to him that he should never getting married and doesn't bother telling her best friend until later? (3) Since he actually tried to find her after the wedding, why didn't she listen to what he had to say instead of hitting him with her bouquet and not returning his calls? I can't imagine anyone not trying to find out why.

Referring to why she gets ripped so much, I don't find her visually offensive, as such, but to say she hasn't had surgery is a lie.
