Hilary Duff Is Engaged
That dude with a peek of belly skin showing (I know you were staring) gave Hilary Duff an engagement ring last weekend, and she said yes. Hilary's spokeswhore confirmed that she's promised to be married to her boyfriend of 2 years Edmonton Oilers player Mike Comrie. Hilary's rep rolled her eyes because she couldn't leave early for the weekend before putting this statement out:
"After having been together for over two years, they are very excited to share this happy news. They are thankful for all of your warm wishes."
Bauer Griffin has pictures of Mike proposing to Hilary on the balcony of their hotel in Hawaii. Seriously, dude gets down on knee and everything. Just like in the Lifetime movies! And they also have a picture of Hilary getting on her knees in front of Mike to celebrate their engagement. Hilary is all veneers, so Mike's face would look like this if she was giving him a "yay we're getting married" beej. I'm pretty sure she was just giving him a celebratory belly button rimming.

@Jane Doe: "Married the Dutch way" means that we were planning to buy a house and it was more practical and less expensive to get married than to have our relationship simply notarized. It's not as cold as it sounds, because we were of course committed to one another.
I guess I'm just born cynical, because even as a little girl the whole wedding thing didn't appeal to me. I bought a knee length off white dress to please both mothers, but to this day the fitting session alone is filed under "never again". Picture a shop filled with borderline hysteric brides to be, a saleswoman who steps uninvitedly into the dressing room and starts touching me in places I don't wanna be touched by any woman, me wearing black, worn undies and being the laughing stock of the whole store ('Who wears black to a fitting session?!' my mother-in-law snapped.) Don't even get me started on the wedding day, with those seemingly endless Kodak moments. Women who willingly go through that twice are heroes in my book.

Interesting. Several years ago, I read some article about a trend in marrying young again (mid-20s), while the generation before it had put it off till the their late 30s, if they married at all. Amongst my own family and friends I sort of see that line, between the generation that waited (who did marry but later) and the younger folks who married in college or just after. Most people I can think of (personally) eventually do get married, though they probably have lived with different partners before, and some keep getting married again and again. So I don't think people who marry or cohabit are either/or people (marrying types or not). More, I think it's a question of timing and the kind of life you envision with a specific person. Some people make you think you can do it better than your parents, some people make you want to do it completely different.
@Mickey: Generally, I'd say several generations ago, that's what people used to think. Now? Well, I know more people who have been in relationships without getting married more than anything.
More often than not, people I know (mid to late 20's) are starting to look around, see all their divorced parents and think: maybe it's not that good of an idea.
I'm married and it's because it was the most practical and (romantic choice at the time.) Yeah, it sounds naive and all, but that's how it went down.
As far as Hillary goes, I used to hate her when my little sister used to make me watch Lizzie McGuire way back... now, I kinda like her.
She quit the coke and looks 10x better now that she's not that worried about conforming to the ultra thin aesthetics.
Sure she's not that bright, but at least she's not as stupid as Lohan.
Funny to think those two were engaged in a bitter rivalry for the spot of #1 IT girl and now neither are IT.
At least Duff seems sober and happy though.
at 22? yeah, i'd say check back in 5 years.

despite that i would never wish bad things to happen as far as love and relationships are concerned-no matter who the person is (yes, despite the fact i hate Katie Price i did want her and Peter to stay together because they seemed genuinly happy and i had always wished her well in that regard), so i wish hilary muff and her hubby to be all th best too :D
I don't know why but I'm "happier"for her than for Nicole Ritchie, this is areally good girl, who always have had a good head on her shoulder. I don't buy Nicole's new life style I honestly believe that isn't as "reformed" as she wants us to believe.

I never get why Americans put so much emphasis on marriage, the women especially. All that screaming at Oprah's whenever a man goes down on his knees. You are either incurable romantics or incredibly naive (which seems unlikely looking at the tone of this site). Generally we consider marriage to be nothing more than a legalization of the relationship and an excuse to party. If it all sucked before marriage it will also suck afterwards. It's not some sort of cure that changes people overnight. My guess is that one in three marriages ends in divorce because women have too much expectations. His socks will still miss the laundry basket by an inch every freakin' time. (And yes, I am married myself, but obviously the Dutch way).

we don't have dramas about the toilet seat or the socks or his dishes. maybe that's why we're still disgustingly in love :P (that's what our family and friends said. My husband always says if a couple think his/her other half is too good for them, it will be a perfect marriage because they will appreciate each other and show it..

At least they didn't get engaged right away. So many celebs seem to marry hockey players and all the ones I can think of seem to have good marriages. When people live together, I'm not sure why they have a need to get married. If you save yourself for marriage then I understand why you want to be married. Personally I tell my daughter who is 9 to be VERY careful. Right now she could care less about sex but I tell her anyway.
