This Is All Sorts Of YES!

File this under: Things we've always wanted, but never knew it until it was dropped on our foreheads.

Here's the eagerly-awaited (in our subconscious) cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rapsody" by Miss Piggy (featuring The Muppets). You know that bitch is the star.

After watching this from beginning to end, I can say wholeheartedly that the next season of American Idol should only star Muppets. The same goes for the next season of Dancing with the Stars..... and X-Factor.... and America's Got Talent.... and etc...etc..etc...

Totally love it!!

Today is the 18th anniversary of Freddy Krueger's death.

---------------------------

Freddy Krueger is the guy from Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddie Mercury is who you are talking about. Yesterday (Tuesday) was also the 18th anniversary of Eric Carr's death, too. He was the drummer from KISS. They both died on the same day.

I LOVE Freddie Mercury and listen to his music daily. When I started watching this, I noticed they changed most of the words, but I watched it to the end. When they kept the final words, though "Any way the wind blows", I felt like that was still a tribute to Freddie. I think Freddie would have gotten a real kick out of this, too.

OMG MK! This spread across FB like wildfire! It was the best part of my day yesterday too...FANK U for posting.

MK you rule for bringing us such joy. I love how many Mothers read your blog. Half the comments referred to showing" that clip to their kids". So happy to live in a world with other Mothers with demented senses of humor. I would have no idea if it wasn't for you Michael.

You're stunned, I know. It's hard to believe isn't it, that beneath this wrinkled, well-fed exterior there lies a dangerous killing machine with a fetish for Fawkesian masks.

When the one guy got the fish in the head I almost pissed myself..I don't know why I found that so funny but I'm still laughing writing this!

My day is made. Fuck, my life may have just been made. If I ever have children I'll be singing this version while rocking them to sleep.

While I've basically been a loyalist to the Jim Henson years of the Muppets (although Muppet Christmas Carol is still the best movie adaptation of the story that I've seen) I'm glad that the company's finally decided to become relevant by coming out with web shorts like this one and the other with Rizzo trying to make Rolf outdo the skateboarding dog thing. Before that, it killed me about the Jim Henson company is that Henson was so into the technology available at the time---if you see the footage behind the scenes of the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and The Storyteller, they were using things no one had ever used before, technology wise. And then after he died, they stopped doing anything progressive. Yeah, there was Mirrormask, which no one saw and made me drowsy, but even though it looked great, it was basically another version of Labyrinth. So I'm content with nostalgia-bating web shorts for the time being. And Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal were not only very expensive, but they did miserably at the box office, so I understand if they wouldn't want to retread on that. The Storyteller, on the other hand, was a popular and critically acclaimed HBO series that later ran on NBC. And now that the intended audience for those movies has finally become old enough to appreciate them, Hot Topic's making a mint off them. I guess it's better to be the rediscovered gem than the forgotten one (like 9, for instance. I got the sense that by looking too scary for kids and too juvenile for adults, it wasn't given the credit it was due). Computer technology and CGI have not rendered puppetry useless. Yoda in the Star Wars prequels actually looked more "real" when he was a puppet. Though at least "Where the Wild Things Are" made the CGI monsters look like they could have been puppets (Sweetums comes to mind). Jim Henson brought a new kind of puppeteering to children, but more importantly, he brought it to audiences who wrote off the art form as children's territory. Since no one else is doing that now, The Jim Henson Company needs to step up. This a good start, but they need to move forward.

Rant over.

Hey xerquina.... The Muppet Show was produced by Jim Henson, the same guy who originally did Sesame Street. It was a weekly series that aired during prime time for older children and adults during the late 70's. These are all characters many of us grew up with... Muppets are awesome :)

JoJo -- what's up, hon? I hope things get better for you.

Thanks...I really do appreciate your concern.

My mom has early stage dementia, and let my cats out (I live on a very busy street....thank God I got them back in before they got hurt.) I blew up at her and haven't talked to her in almost a month. My father has always been a cruel, heartless s.o.b. and treats her like shit. My sister (who is circling the drain with her drug, alcohol and unemployment issues) called him out over it, and he blew up on her (over the phone, she's in CA, we're in Michigan)...so she called me in tears....but I'm barely talking to her because of aforementioned drug/alcohol and unemployment issues. My whole flippin' family is dysfunctional as hell. Now it's 'Tis the season' and nobody is talking to anybody else, and hurt feelings all around make this just the worst holiday season I think I've ever experienced.

Sorry about the hi-jack...
