I might just be me, but I think a woman feels freer around a guy without control issues or a hyper critical opinion of how women's bodies should look. But I can see how you might think a dude's pudge might put a girl at ease, that's entirely plausible.
But, the appeal of certain celeb dudes that were once picture perfect or whatever doesn't factor into how hot they are when they lose that facet of their makeup. Personality, sense of humour, too many other factors definitely come into play other than an 'ideal' body type.

Not to criticize your suggestion, but whether a dude is chubby or lean doesn't necessarily dictate how he feels about a girls body. Back when I was skinnier, I dated a dude who was kind of chunky and he was relatively critical and said I had a little "belly". Then years later I dated this athletic guy who was super lean and he liked chubby girls and never really criticized me.

For a split second I was like, "Oh nooo!" But then I realized he's still fucking hot.
