Judge Declares Mistrial In John Travolta Extortion Case
In the Bahamas, a judge shouted "MISTRIAL!" in the John Travolta extortion case due to possible shady jury behavior. Two people were on trial for allegedly trying to snatch $25 million from the Travolta family in exchange for their silence regarding details about their son's death in the Bahamas. Apparently, one of the defendants, an ambulance driver, threatened to tell the media that John was responsible for his son's death.
The trial went on for four looong weeks, and a verdict was expected at any minute. But last night, Picewill Forbes, a member of Parliament, announced at a political convention that defendant Pleasant Bridgewater (who should have been a 70s casino singer instead of an extorter) was acquitted of all charges. This was before an official verdict was announced by the jury. The judge in the case thinks that one of the jury members might have ran off and whispered the verdict into the politician's ear.
The judge ordered a retrial. John Travolta's attorney said that the whole thing is "weird," but his client will cooperate with the prosecution and testify again in the new trial. That's if the evil Pleasant Bridgewater even makes it to a new trial. I wouldn't be surprised if Pleasant Bridgewater suddenly disappears from real-life. Don't mess with Ron!

Feel sorry for Jett? THAT I do, I always felt bad for him - he was raised without any chance of leading a semi-normal life due to his parents CHOICE. The choice of scientology. I disliked them for that since I found out about Jett many years ago and the child's death only exacerbates my loathing.

Bowchicka: I agree with you. I have a lot of compassion for John. As a parent, I try not to judge too harshly, unless someone is an egregiously bad parent. We all make errors in judgment; most times they don't lead to death, thank goodness.
Ithink that some kids can achieve a degree of recovery and function in the world, with intensive early therapies and if the child is not too far away. Personally, not having a degree in this, but some real-world observation, I don't think there was much they could have done for Jett even if they had had an early diagnosis and intervention. Just my opinion. He seemed to have been profoundly autistic.
And may the universe forgive me for suggesting that IT'S MY OPINION that Kelly didn't want an autistic child and I never saw much evidence that she loved him half as much as John did. I always say that without a doubt, John loved Jett with all his heart. That is why I can't hate on John even a little. It was obvious, and I think it pained him that he couldn't be more open about it. (Like his sexuality). I don't think he's a bad man.

I totally agree about the apparent severity of Jett's autism AND about Kelly. Who knows, maybe she's not an outwardly demonstrative woman but in the privacy of her own home she is loving. I hope that is true but I always got the same vibe about her that you do.

Actually, although autism isn't "easy" to diagnose, it can easily be diagnosed (and certainly was 16 years ago. I know because my 17 year old son has Aspergers and we've known since he was around three years old. He had a PDD-NOS diagnosis at 2 that was later changed to Aspergers at 3). I can understand how it would be difficult to diagnose with your standard Hollywood types because they really scrutinize the parents first (at least in our case and after we lost our second child, our marriage ended because the "abnormal one lived").No one has access to my son's records but he's judged every day he walks outside, as am I as his mother, so why the Travolta's should be exempt is beyond me.
The kissing his dad photo is not a sign he isn't autistic.My son also hugs me at strange moments (and pulls out the random kiss) but when someone else initiates emotions, he runs the other way.
The Travoltas were so adamant in insisting he didn't have autism that I think that's why so much venom was directed towards them (particularly from those of us who know what it's like to have an autistic child and quite frankly could see he was on the autistic spectrum).
Maybe if people who were Scientologist weren't so vile toward anyone who didn't drink their Kool-Aid they would get a little more sympathy. I've been on the receiving end my Clam cousin who blamed ME and Thetans for my son being autistic and even said (with a smile) he can't stand to be around my son because it makes him uncomfortable. Catholics, Baptists, Anglicans don't scream in my face that it's my fault (maybe they think it but they have enough class not to say it) whereas Scientologist like to rant any and everywhere why health issues are the person (or "thetans") fault.
I understand their loss and feel sorry for them but they could have celebrated who he really was while he was alive...an autistic teen ...followed by no comment would have given him dignity not lying and saying he had something else.

Jett would have been fully capable of living a much better life if his parents had acknowledged his autism and put him in the correct schools from an early age.
I saw a pic of Jett KISSING his Dad = that right there proves that Jett was not as severely autistic as they made him out to be.
Autistic children don't often kiss or show emotion: Jett would have been well served if his parents hadn't been in denial and narrow-minded.
Yes, I have lost a brother and see how my Mom is just a shell of the person she used to be BUT I cannot feel sympathy for people that hid behind a cult and let their son die from neglect and shame.

I think it is all very sad. Autism, no autism...scientology...sham of a marriage because John's gay...whatever. None of that matters in regard to the fact that they lost their child. Even if Jett was conceived in a lab because they do not engage in sexy times with each other and even if his autism was untreated because of their love of Xenu, they still don't deserve to be ridiculed over their son's death or made to feel responsible. Many kids have autism and are untreated for it. For many kids, there is no allopathic medical treatment that changes their condition. They receive therapy to help them live their lives as best as they can with their condition. It is like having a child with mental retardation, as an example for comparison and no, I am not saying autism is the same as mental retardation or whatever the PC term for it is these days. There would be no prescription or surgery that would change the facts of that child's condition. The child would only be able to maximize whatever functionality he or she can acheive, with proper training. Jett's seizure disorder may be related to the autism but I can't say it is the Travolta's belief in Scientology that killed their son. Phenobarital would have helped to control his seizures but it wouldn't guarantee that he would never have a seizure again plus, a lifetime of Phenobarbital comes with its own risks and negative health consequences. I think that as parents, they made a choice to not go with traditional allopathic treatment but I doubt they completely ignored his health or the risks. They loved him as much as any other parent loves their child and did the best they can. Being celebrities doesn't give them parental super-powers to literally watch over Jett every second of the day nor does it mean that they can better avoid the health risks that any child faces. Many people lose a child due to a bad decision in healthcare but it doesn't always mean negligence. It's usually a case of hindsight being 20/20. If they knew Jett's death due to a seizure would be the result of whatever medical path they chose for him, I can almost guarantee you they would have chosen differently. They likely thought they were making the best decisions for him. I'm not necessarily a fan of either of them but I do think they deserve a little more kindness and compassion than they are being shown here.
