Mike Seaver Has Done It Again
Kirk Cameron, the star of my favorite comedy movie of '08 Fireproof, has once again climbed to the top of the internet mountain to shout about evolution...or something. In a video he posted on his website, Kirk went on and on about how Darwin hated vagina and was a total racist. Kirk even claims that Darwin's "Origin of Species" inspired Hitler. Yup, the entire Seaver family just put him on the curb.
Kirk and the "Banana Guy" will travel to college campuses to hand out a new 50-page introduction for the "Origin of Species." Unfortunately, Kirk didn't say Boner would be joining them on the tour. Because if he was, I'd totally drop my dildo to be there.
After Kirk's video made it around the internet and back, a Romanian girl posted a response where she calls him a "ssssssssssnake!" Homegirl spanks Kirk as if he was a screaming 2-year-old in the Salvation Army! Anybody who looks like they teleported directly from 1990 has my vote. Every time.

I don't understand why it is so hard for the Christian fundies to accept evolution. At its core, all evolution means is that things change over time. That's all. Something current that shows evolution is MRSA. Some bacteria have been able to survive various antibiotics and have evolved to form a "superbug" of sorts. Their descendants have that immunity that their antecedents didn't. How is that unchristian?
Seriously, the Bible is the perfect example of evolution. You would have to be a dolt to believe that the current Bible is what was revealed/given/created by Jesus. The fact that there are so many versions show that with time, the Bible evolved into something unrecognizable. The changes over time of the Bible aren't fiction, they're totally factual and any learned Christian scholar would be the first to agree that the Bible has been altered from its original form.

Not arguing about evolution here, but Romanian girl doesn't quite understand how and why the constitution is what it is and "God given rights".
Our rights ARE considered "God given" and in fact that is exactly what started us down the road to our consitution. John Locke wrote "Two Treatises on Government" to clarify that rights are not GIVEN to us by government, but we are born with them. Therefore in the speech of the late 17th century, we are born with "God given" or "Natural rights" if you decide you don't want to utter the word God.
So then we come to the constitution. The consitution does not GIVE us rights. The constitution ensures that the government cannot take away the rights that are assumed upon birth. Including the right to be an uneducated moron who wants to discredit science for a book written back when they thought demons could be cast into pigs. But whatever, it's their right!
So, just a little history lesson and nit picking. Other than that, who gives a shit what Kirk Cameron thinks?

It was people like Louis Aggassiz and other "scientific racists" that bent over backward to show that Darwin, who said the human race had a single origin, was wrong. Aggassiz tried to use Brazil as proof that the mixing of ethnic groups could not produce children in addition the usual "[insert group] is naturally stupid/lazy/unfit" shit.
The only life and death issue here is that Christian fundamentalists are trying to dismantle science and replace it with one of two creation stories from a text arbitrarily edited by MEN at various political councils.
If my future doctor is going to learn anything about evolution, population ecology, founder effects, allele frequency, and the like on the way to learning about medicine, they'd better get it from a genuine scientific text. There are enough whackadoos in the world that think sickness is the result of sin and that healing only comes by praying it away.

In theory, eugenics is a great idea if it means resistance to disease, higher intellect and physical superiority but evolution is doing that now. We are the intelligent animals, but we are also the emotional ones. To force natural selection is removing the human element and though we may be intelligent, to err is human and maybe it's best to let mother nature do the job.

I just went to the youtube page and it is scary how easily people drink the kool aid. The worst part is no amount of rational argument gets through because their beliefs are not rational.
As for kids not being exposed...I grew up in a fundie, "born-again" household. That actually lead me to be so vehemently opposed to religion on a personal level. I married a Muslim, which was a sore spot since they are "evil". He is actually now agnostic (thanks to me). Do what you do, but leave me and my government out of it! I hate their shameless attempts to force their religion onto other people.
If you are agnostic or atheist, you might as well tell them you are a devil-worshiper, it is that bad. I remember being indoctrinated to think that as a child. I hope we non-believers can stand up as proudly as they do one day and outnumber their asses. BTW, I am talking about fundies, not all Xtians...

"Favored races" doesn't mean racism. It just means species and versions of species that are favored by their natural environment, particularly when the species relocates or the environment changes. Saying that the book is evil because eugenics is the "logical" extension of it is just silly. There is no logical extension. It's a theory to explain something, and anyone who feels the need to extend it because of their personal beliefs can do so without changing the book or what it explains.
Also, is eugenics really a seriously bad idea? We don't breed cats or dogs with congenital problems, we try to better the breeds by encouraging health and intelligence, but it's wrong to do that with our own species? Why? I'm guessing that if any other species had the power to improve themselves the way that we do, they would jump at the chance.

My high school never pushed religion. We did have a mythology/bible lit class. We studied them both and did compare/contrast work on them. The Christian bible and Greek mythology are remarkably similar. I guess I should say Christian mythology, huh?

Now she is born again, and every other sentence has something to do with religion. She tries to force it down everyone's throat and is very intolerant. Constantly trying to 'convert' me, for lack of a better word (I'm an atheist). I can't talk to her anymore. I never bring up religion. SHE does. Her life revolves around it and it is ridiculous.
