Farewell, Mary Travers
Peter and Paul are without a Mary today, because she had to run off to heaven to serenade Patrick Swayze as he twirled about. Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary passed away in a Connecticut hospital yesterday from leukemia. Mary was 72.
Both Peter and Paul issued statements on their official website which you can read here in their entirety. Below is just a snippet of what each of them wrote:
"I have no idea what it will be like to have no Mary in my world, in my life, or on stage to sing with. But I do know there will always be a hole in my heart, a place where she will always exist that will never be filled by any other person. However painful her passing is, I am forever grateful for Mary and her place in my life.” - Paul Yarrow
"I am deadened and heartsick beyond words to consider a life without Mary Travers and honored beyond my wildest dreams to have shared her spirit and her career." - Noel Paul Stookey
Yes, the hungry Summer of Death just won't stop. Let's just hope it doesn't turn into the Autumn of Death or we'll all just have to get under the covers. Saaaaaads.

NOOOOO! Peter and Paul just won't sound right. I saw their bio thing on A & E a few weeks ago. Sigh.
When my son was five, we took him to see Peter, Paul and Mary at Fiddler's Green in Denver. My son was transfixed, and after the concert, my husband actually lined up with the invited guests to meet them backstage. Ever since then, my boy has loved them as much as I do.
RIP Miss Travers, and thank you for your beautiful songs and your passion for your beliefs.

I remember having the actual Puff the Magic Dragon album. That album and Burl Ives Lollipop Tree album were my favorites. Yes, I'm old.
You know, there has been too much sadness lately. In the past 16 mos I lost my cousin, my best friend and my sister all suddenly. I used to just smile all the time and come on here to laugh all the time on top of that.
I find myself sad most of the time, even when I come on here.
I think we all need a break from the sadness of these people we seemed to have known our whole lives dying, but that's not going to happen.
I guess I'm glad we have youtube so we can go back and remember the happy times when these people entertained us so well.
Btw, in the 80's all us eyeglass wearers used to think those big glasses were stylish. This video proves how wrong we were.

Peter, Paul and Mary have a kid's album and on the video of it, Mary sings a song to her granddaughters and daughters and it makes me cry every fucking time. You can feel the love in her voice.
I also grew up on their music and remember gazing at the album cover for "Late Again", wishing I could look like Mary when I grew up. She was so pretty.
OK, September 22 is the first day of fall. Maybe death is trying to get in a few more before summer is over and then this will STOP.
