Walter Cronkite Has Passed Away
Oh no. 2009 is not doing us right! Another legend has passed. Walter Cronkite went off to the great big newsroom in the sky today at the age 92. Walter's family said he died at 7:42 tonight in New York. Walter's cause of death is not known yet, but a few weeks ago his family said he was suffering from cerebrovascular disease.
Walter was the anchor on the CBS news from 1962 to 1981. He delivered news of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 and also announced the first moon landing in 1969. Walter would end each broadcast with his signature line: "And that's the way it is."
Walter is survived by his three children and his many grandchildren.
May Walter rest in peace..... He will always be an American icon and will forever be missed.

Man----the last several years he has hosted the New Year's Day Konzerts of the Vienna Philharmonic, broadcast on PBS Television. He was so cool, vigorous and fun. This past year, there was a different host, so I feared he might be nearing the end.
What a cool, interesting guy. I'm saddened by this.

Walter Cronkite gained my respect when he attacked Bush for being so arrogant and disdainful of the UN and bullying them into going along with the US or take a hike. RIP Walter Cronkite.
Goodbye, Mr. Cronkite. Thank you for providing information -- and freedom -- to millions. You were an example and will be sorely missed.

Mr. Cronkite was an avid sailor and often boated the Great Lakes. He stopped off in a small town called Little Current and bought the best ice cream in the world from Farquars Dairy....always the gentleman..Geraldo Rivara came too, but that's another story. I didn't buy him any ice cream!!
Funny thing, July 16, 1969 was the 40th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing....ironic really.

That is sad news. My Dad chauffered Walter Cronkite for a weekend in Vancouver in the 80's and said he was just the nicest man - no arrogance or diva behaviour. At the end of the weekend Walter even invited my Dad to stay at his HOUSE if he was ever in L.A.! Who does that for their limo driver? R.I.P.

I remember gathering around the black and white TV every evening with the family to watch the news. The music would start an you felt you were a privileged witness to the days events. Sadly, news has yielded to partisan entertainment. Mr. Cronkite, RIP.

Truly an American Icon. Growing up watching him practically every night for years made him seem almost like a member of the family. RIP.
