Walter Cronkite Has Passed Away
Oh no. 2009 is not doing us right! Another legend has passed. Walter Cronkite went off to the great big newsroom in the sky today at the age 92. Walter's family said he died at 7:42 tonight in New York. Walter's cause of death is not known yet, but a few weeks ago his family said he was suffering from cerebrovascular disease.
Walter was the anchor on the CBS news from 1962 to 1981. He delivered news of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 and also announced the first moon landing in 1969. Walter would end each broadcast with his signature line: "And that's the way it is."
Walter is survived by his three children and his many grandchildren.
May Walter rest in peace..... He will always be an American icon and will forever be missed.

He was the voice of my favorite ad campaign for his (and my) alma mater, and we're missing him already:

Walter Cronkite was a dickhead, a total complete dickhead.
I saw him speak at an invitation only dinner in Portland back in the 80's and it was a waste of time.
The older I get, the more I have come to believe that the real shits in life get blessed with a long life span and the good ones are taken before their time.
I will never forgive him for calling Elvis "fat" on Elvis' 40th birthday! That really hurt Elvis' feelings.
Who in the hell was Walter Cronkite to reduce his supposed relevance to such juvenile name calling.
The guy was a narcissistic a-hole.
The end of another era... Goodbye to someone that made a difference...
Don't mean to be disrespectful, but he really needed to trim his eyebrows. I just don't get that... Just like Andy Rooney on 60 minutes - he needs to trim those nasty eyebrows.

I agree with you, cabbagehead.
Even though I'm quite socially liberal, I'm so fucking torn between two sides that constantly bitch and moan about each other.
It's not only the liberals, but it's not only the conservatives either. To be honest, I *don't* have much to say because I'm not even interested in politics otherwise even though I honestly don't agree with most of Obama's policies I've heard about...but I am really tired of hearing about all the "evil liberals" just as much as I was hearing about all the "evil conservatives" when the US was under the Bush administration.
The contant blaming coming from either side is causing serious damage to American culture. I'm sure that individuals from either political agenda can agree on SOMETHING, but they refuse to listen to each other. I bet that both camps *do* have a good arguments that are sensible to the other, but... It's just easier to complain.

Why should anyone lead the world ?? I still think Bush was arrogant. I think he just didn't want to listen to anyone else. The world is sick of America being the bully. Do it our way or hit the highway. Yeah, the UN left 800,000 Rwandans to die at the hands of machetes in tribal conflicts, because it didn't concern their interests. Why do you think think they resisted us invading Iraq ? France did because Saddam Hussein gave them oil at discounted prices. It's all about the money and oil. And always will be. So the UN isn't a saint. Neither is America.

Now here's a guy whose memorial service should be in a major stadium.
He led us through so many pivotal events in history. I'll miss him.
RIP, Walter Cronkite. Thank you for gracing our world.

Will we get 2 weeks of solid wall-to-wall TV coverage of this? Of course not, he's not a "pop" icon. Just a legend in journalism. God speed Walter.

You are my new hero. Neocons need to think twice (or at least ONCE) before they start spouting off about "evil liberals."
Anyway...Rest in peace, Uncle Walter. One of the last, great, TRUE journalists.

"The cause of death is not yet known"
Yes, I'm sure the fact that he was 92 YEARS OLD had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Actually, his death was quite a shock - I thought he passed away 15 years ago.
First, RIP. He's before my time, but seems like a respectable guy.
Second "Walter's cause of death is not known yet" Okay, for anyone over the age of 85 - unless it's murder or something blatantly abnormal - isn't it safe to assume that the cause of death is just the olds?
Cronkite was the last of his type of journalist.
Now all we have is corporate infotainment.
Edie said that sometimes the line between the past and present is blurred.(They are both, it has to be said, quite, quite mad.)
Growing up, my childhood consisted of waiting until my father came home at 5:00 to eat dinner, and while we ate, we watched the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. He was what a news anchor should be. He simply reported the news, and kept his own bias to himself. I hated when he left and Dan Rather took over.
This new generation of "news analysts" need to take a lesson from the Walter Cronkite book of reporting.
They don't make 'em like Walter Cronkite any more, and he will be sorely missed.

REALLY? You REALLY respect the UN? I guess you LIKE being told what to do by people who absolutely have NO, ZERO, NADDA interest in YOUR life. I find that laughable!
The UN would like to see America taken down a notch. Are you in favor of that? Do you think the USA no longer should lead the world? If not us, the WHO? WHO would YOU like to see the allmighty power handed over to? Kiss your ass goodbye if you mention ANY other country.
God, you liberals CRACK ME UP with your foolishness! Thanks to Obama you can KISS YOUR LIFE GOODBYE. Cap & Trade will be the END of America as we know it. Be prepared to pay $1000+ a month for electricity, groceries, gas...oh wait, you don't have THAT kind of money!

HI THERE CRAZY.
the state of this fucking country has been going to shit for a LONG ASS TIME before obama got into office, but i love how all of a sudden its his fault. it isnt his fault, it wasnt bush's fault- this country has been going full speed ahead and people have predicted its downfall for decades, so please, everyone that wants to go on and on about blah blah blah its so and so's fault needs to fucking pull their heads out of their asses. the blame game is old and gets nothing done, just spreads more idiocy and hatred.
LIFE gets more expensive by the year, or have you not noticed? in the early 20th century you could get a soda for 5 cents, now it costs about a buck and a quarter. would you like to blame that on someone too? use some damn logic.
p.s. people that label others as 'foolish liberals' just because they hear something they don't agree with are ridiculous douchebags that have nothing real to say.
p.p.s. ITS SPELLED 'NADA'
Rest in peace.

Your cheer-leading of the space program had me draped over a horizontally placed dinette chair... back flat with a motorcycle helmet on...staring up at the stars from the 2nd floor balcony of a ghetto apt.Complete with barking dogs and cops breaking up drunken weekend domestic disputes.I'm gonna get to space someday.I have you & the Apollo 11 team to thank.

What's so controversial about "died"?
Use "slipped away" next time, because it always makes me think of crazy Kathy Bates in "Misery": "Slipped away???? SLIPPED AWAY!!???!!!!"

back from the bar...this man reminds me of my god dad in so many ways. very strong, and raised me right. at times he was rough since he was in WWII as a pilot so he was very military but I owe him and my god mom the woman I am now. Bright, strong (sometimes I drink) but thats ok. He's fave drink was Vodka and orange juice. Maybe we should learn something from them. My god dad has not passed away yet, but he's getting close, had hip replacement surgery a few months ago but again, I am happy and proud I was raised by a gentleman. Walter Rest in Peace! You are a true human being.
