Considering that brown recluse bites are rare, especially in California, and even more rare that a serious abscess would form after a bite especially if the person is rich and can seek quick treatment, isn't it more likely that his abscess was caused by intravenous drug use, considering we already KNOW he had an addiction to shooting up demerol? Common sense seems to be in short supply around here.

You can force someone into rehab but you CANNOT make them stay clean if they don't want to. MJ had been to rehab at least once, probably many more times than that, at the urging of his family/friends.

LOL at "forcing" him into rehab. How do you FORCE a grown man into rehab? Cannot be done. The most a family and friends can do is stage an intervention. But that's about it. And even IF they talked him into rehab it would have gone to shit. The whole purpose of rehab is that the addict has to WANT to be there. Has to WANT to get better. Has to know and understand he/she has a problem. If you go into rehab because you were talked into it or threatened with jail, they'll relapse as soon as they get out. Rehab is not for escaping your families nagging and escaping possible jail time.

As for the doctors, shit yeah there will be hell to pay. Yes, Michael is an addict and begged for the drugs. The problem is that whoever administered the drug will have to face the music if something goes wrong. It's one thing to give Michael the drug and then haul ass while Michael injects himself. But the fact that a doctor personally administered the drugs? Oh, hell no.

I am not a Jackson sympathizer. But the doctor is at least 50% responsible for the death. If an overdose is what Michael died of. Wouldn't that be involuntary manslaughter or something?

Why would a brown recluse want to bite THAT?

I bet they WERE putting an IV in his leg. The coroner has already said all the veins in his arms were collapsed. And those are obviously track marks inside his knees. A brown recluse. RIIIIGGGGHTTT.

I guess because I saw the destructive effect of forced committal, that's what is foremost in my mind. But I believe it can work.

this whole thing is hideous. what that doctor(s) did was MUCH more than enabling. before anyone shouts that MJ was an addict and it's his doing alone, these people took an oath to DO NO HARM & to actually use the training they received to keep their patient healthy, regardless of what that patient THINKS he wants.

Instead they appear to not only have knowingly prescribed controlled substances continually knowing full well he was an addict but also actively administered potentially deadly anesthesia (!?!?). That shit shouldn't even be found outside the OR, let alone be used for "sleep" or whatever else. Without a dr., MJ never would have gotten his hands on this.

IMO, they may not have set out to kill him, but they knew FULL well that this could be the result and took a gamble that it wouldn't go this way, and that they could continue to get their payout, privilege and whatever else they got hanging out with him.

These people need to be prosecuted and to have their licenses revoked. Disgusting is not the word.

She did it because she was young, losing everything and was practically begging for a man (any man) to tell her what to do in the first place. This is in no way how it goes down in real people life.

I agree with everyone that said an addict will quit when they decide to quit, no matter how many loved ones they hurt along the way. And the police (hahahahaha!) are unable to really do anything except lock them up for a couple hours. Which is what happened when my dad - on crack - punched me dead in my eye because I wouldn't give him my mom's purse. He was arrested and locked up for a week on a domestic charge. No rehab. No intervention by the law. No nothing. Tell me again how it's MY fault that my dad is a raving crack head? Because I didn't drive him to rehab myself 3 seperate times? Because I didn't call the police on him more times than I can count? Maybe my little sister or mom or aunts or uncles or cousins or grandparents or neighbors or church should've done more... oh wait, they fucking did - for 10 straight years. So please excuse me if I say that the family, even if they knew that MJ was sticking a needle full of pine sol in his dick 23 times a day, is in no way to blame for his addictions.

In my relative's situation, the family member was thrown into a crappy rehab without much (if any) consideration for whether the "treatment" was effective or not. Or if the "treatment" was actually destructive.

I can see where intervention would be appropriate, helpful, necessary if handled properly.

Edit: One basic point being that any power position can be abused. I realize this is the minority perspective, but it is worth considering.

you cant force someone into rehab no, but you can find ways to help get them there.

my family did all they could to get me arrested, and then worked with the judge to give me a lighter sentance if i agreed to rehab. it worked cause fuck me if I was going to jail for three years.

with someone with an unlimited supply of cash and resources though, thatd be near impossible. I would have never gotten arrested if i didnt have to do some shady bullshit to get my drugs.
