It's easy to see the confusion with this pup though..a Shiba is pretty much a mini Akita Inu...and Red is not a real common coat color...

Oh its an Akita, I had an Akita as a foster dog for about a year 1/2, I was sooo damn picky about where she would wind up that I kept refusing everyone that came to see her. She was 120lbs of pure comedy and love....Smart bastard too...I adopted him out and they guy and family were loaded and lived in NJ, they returned him 3 months later cause a friend they had over for a BBQ put his arm down w/the Burger in his hand and the dog came over grabbed the Burger and bit the guy on the hand. The wife was never crazy about the dog anyway, so I take back all my rescues. He gave me a 500.00 check to take him back, I would of done it w/out the money, but it certainly helped. I got him adopted to another wonderful family in NJ also who happened to know the vet the other guy used. They love her and have no problems w/her. I love to do rescue cause I get updated at least once a month about how they're doing and recent pics, it's very bittersweet, Im in a fetal position for like a week or 2 when they leave my home. But then I know its the best for them and I have room to save another...Okay sorry for long rant.

I agree the puppy looks somewhat like a Shiba but the real Hachiko was an Akita. The Japanese would never stand for a movie using the wrong breed, which they would perceive right away. Hachiko is a big cultural icon in Japan.

I saw the story about Hachiko on Dogs 101. He's an Akita, not a Shiba. It's a very moving story about the loyalty of this dog to his owner, even after the owner died. It made me cry, it's a very touching story.
OHHHHHH Shibas are soooo darn cute, Hey Richard leave that puppy alone and if you can fit that shit up your ass, you definitely deserve a page in the Guiness Worlds Book....But noooooo dont do it that beautiful pup, imagine the color it will come out, cacca brown instead of the lovely lite capuccino it is now.

I heard about this story on animal planet.
An Akita used to accompany his master to the train everyday and wait for him to come home, his master dies and the dog kept showing up until he died, natural causes, no tragic death.
They have a statue and everything commemorating the dog.
Edit (due to onset senility): Yes, his master went off to work and never came back. The statue is outside the Shibuya train station. It's a famous meeting spot: "Meet me at Hachiko."
