Do we get a vote in this? Seriously! The FDA is trying to keep us from Vicodin and Percocet, because of their effects on the liver. Once my liver wakes up from its coma, it will testify (in a slurry voice) that Vicodin has only had a positive effect on it.
It get worse, the FDA also wants to lower the maximum dose of over-the-counter acetaminophen. That means your after dinner snack of Tylenol PM won't be as strong! And how are we going to cope around children?! The FDA must think of the children!!!!!

FUCK those of you making comments about using pain medication, when you know NOTHING of what it is like to live with chronic intractable pain. Percocet is the ONLY thing that gets me through my day and lets me get on with my life. I'm SO FUCKING GLAD you all have it SO GOOD that you can just take an advil or two, but this is some serious shit for those of us stuck taking strong meds to overcome our daily problems. I wouldn't mind if they took out the acet. and just gave me straight oxycodone, that's fine. But that's not what's going to happen. Are some of you so damn stupid to not realize what a grip the government has on you and your ability to take care of yourself, and the ability of your doctor to take care of you as he sees fit? Now I have to go to bed pissed. Thanks.
OH, and btw to those retards out there that don't know, Tylenol PM is just Benadryl and Tylenol. So take some fucking Benadryl and quit complaining.

vicodin is great & all, but i had a real problem with perc (oxy.) i was really, really addicted- have been clean for a little over a week. was taking nearly 14 (500 mg) pills a day, gradually increasing my dosage. these were prescribed for me for migraines. what sucks about percocet is that as soon as you run out, you get "rebound" headaches that are AWFUL, you can't function, are pretty much bed-bound. i wouldn't say ban vicodin, but please be careful about prescribing percocet! the docs will give you pills for ANYTHING. all you have to say is "ow" in the emergency room and they give you shots of morphine (i've had it.) i've turned down coke, heroin, all that shit cause, you know, drugs are bad, but pain pills...god, so good...
oh noes! now we will have to get straight narcotics. lol. i'm popping tramadol at the moment. it's supposed to be weak but mannnnn i feel great.
Well this sucks. I have a high tolerance to things so it usually takes more for it to work on me.

I used to work in hospital pharmacy, as a narc tech specifically, and I think what they're going for here is the acetaminophen content. That's what tends to kill people who take excessive amounts of Vicodin or Percocet. Both drugs have about the amount of aceta in one Tylenol extra strength. You can only take about 8 ex strength Tylenol (500 mg each, so 4 g total dose) in one day before it starts wreaking havoc on your liver. But, there is only 5mg of oxycodone in a Percocet. Oxycontin (which is pure, time released oxycodone) goes up as strong as 100 mg in one pill. So the body can actually handle more oxycodone/hydrocodone (the narc in Vicodin) than it can Tylenol!
And limiting the strength of over the counter Tylenol is sort of a non issue. It's like how they have ibuprofen...Advil and Motrin have 200mg in a tab. Prescription Ibuprofen has 800mg...so what's to stop you from taking 4 Advil? Same dose. If they eliminate extra strength Tylenol (500mg), you could still take two reg strength (250mg) to get the same dose. What it WILL do is stop dumbasses like my sister from going, hmmm, 1 works for a headache, so EIGHT will work for a migraine, right? If the pills have less in them, dumdums should probably have an easier time with them. The rest of us can figure it out and take more if we need to.

I know someone who is in your same exact position. You can ask for a script of 2mg subs and lower your dose from there. It is a long acting opioid like methadone, so my friend would cut down the dose every five days or so. The good thing about subs is that you can function off of them and it calms cravings. It also takes away the danger from scoring off the street. I am 100% behind suboxone after seeing how much it has helped my friend. Getting off opiates is never easy and congrats to you for getting off the junk. Oh sorry, I assumed that you knew you can break the pills in half and then in quarters to help you wean off the dose?
you're my hero for many reasons...but our common love of tylenol pm is my favorite! TYPM is such an underrated drug! when i cant puff, its the only way i get through the stress of life! i admire your public endorsement.

I wish they'd ban all prescription drug advertising. Every commercial break is some dumb-ass commercial telling us to "ask our doctor" about such-and-such drug...shouldn't our doctor be TELLING us which drugs to take? Magazines...same thing...

I keep forgetting you guys still allow that! Shocking really. No way in hell I would take medical advise from a advertisement. And you're right, your doctors - the one's who've been to school for 8+ years are more qualified to prescribe and advise on meds than a glossy insert.
Drug advertising is about as ethically responsible as marketing to children.
Granted adults should be capable of making intelligent decisions - like not to abuse drugs, but a fair percentage of the population is very susceptable to ads.

I just lost a friend to an overdose on fucking Oxycontin, a prescription "medicine".
And i am losing more friends that are switching from Oxy's to HEROIN cos its cheaper. These people are in their 30s and picking up new fucking drug addictions.
the only way to get Oxy's is from a prescription. You may buy it off the street but there was a prescription written for it somewhere along the lines.
Its disgusting and horribly sad. A tragic fucking epidemic.
We need to be protected from the drug companies.

prescription drugs are a pandemic in this country. most people on them don't even need them, and if they do, not for too long. I had an annoying addiction to smoking heroin for over a year before being put on Suboxone, a very powerful opiate replacement, which itself is a synthetic opiate, stronger than morphine & heroin. I expected to be on this small orange pill for a month at the most. it dissolves after 10 mins under your tongue and has a distinctively bitter lemon-lime taste. my doctor told me it would be very easy to wean myself off of the drug and I would experience little to no withdrawal...CUT TO TODAY. I've been on & off this stupid pill since February 2008 because after several attempts to stop cold-turkey, I've experienced withdrawals lasting almost 3x longer than what I was experiencing from the street tar. 3 week withdrawals leave you unable to work or function productively. I've always been an anxious person but now, I cannot sleep and sometimes experience anxiety attacks. for the anxiety, I've been prescribed Zoloft, Lexapro, and Ativan...of which, I only take the Ativan because it helps me sleep. my doctor told me that smoking herb is bad and illegal but its really helped me with the anxiety and calms me down. so yeah, what I'm not supposed to buy on the street because there is no tax, I can pretty much pay 2x more for, for a month's supply, and everyone's satisfied. my brain has the chemicals it craves and the government has my $700.

Percocet is what I was on after brain tumor surgery in the early 90's. awww I felt like I was in a Cheech & Chong movie. I guess if someone was use to other drugs, it wouldnt have that effect. That stuff was awesome for me. LOL
People are way too overly medicated for pain. Anyone can go into the ER and go, "UGHHHH, MY SIDE HURTS SOOOOO BAD" and get a prescription for the "pain".
My sister got Percocet when she injured her back; she started hallucinating and feeling like she was crawling out of her skin. Not fun.
Birth control has severely reduced my cramps, but I'm at risk for blood clots, cervical cancer, and weight gain, and edema. YAY!
Vicodin and Percs suck, they dont do shit.

accidental overdoses seem to be kinda common--lots of people are on a lot of drugs, and those drugs dont' always interact well. Copule that with people who take natural herbs that interact with drugs, or who use them incorrectly, then you have some problems.
Back home, you cannot buy anything over the couter really. You must go through a pharmacist A(seriously, even Hydrogen peroxide is not otc) The pharmacist then can see all of what your taking, and ensure that there will be no issues.
People who OD on drugs most likely are completely careless and don't read the fucking labels, or do so because they are abusing the drugs. Either way, it is not a good idea to ban these drugs because fo a few dumbasses. What would they perscribe to deal with a root canal?

Vicodin does come in a acetaminophen free version, its called Vicoprofen. It is a combination of Hydrocodone with Ibuprofen. Same with percocet. Its called Percodan and its a combo of Oxycodone with aspirin. I should know, been on Vicoprofens for years. (Legitimate reason of course) And I assure you they are every bit as scrumptious as the original. Happy sailing....
