Michael Jackson Has Died

TMZ is reporting that that Michael Jackson died in Los Angeles from cardiac arrest. The Los Angeles Times, AP, CNN and CBS all confirm the report. The L.A. Times says doctors pronounced him dead after he arrived at the hospital in a deep coma. He was only 50-years-old.

I really don't know what to say. I am completely shocked. This doesn't feel like real life! TMZ has all the details. I'll write a little more later.

And I'm back (FYI: this part was written a couple of hours later). I just finished watching hours upon hours of Michael Jackson coverage and I still don't really know what to say. I will say that the dude made awesome music. That's a fact. You know you busted your shit to at least one Michael Jackson song in your bedroom, a club, a parking lot, a high school gymnasium, etc... The first time I ever drunkenly fell off the stage at a club, "Scream" was playing. Yes, I remember that. I also remember staying up late to watch the premiere of "Remember the Time" on MTV (back when MTV still played videos). I recorded it over Maid to Over on VHS, just so I could watch it a bunch of times.

Michael Jackson's music will live on forever. Hos will be dancing to it for the rest of eternity. Below is my favorite Michael Jackson song. It's also one of my favorite karaoke songs. I mean, you can't lose when singing about special rat friends:

And here's a few pictures of Michael through the years.

The body carted out of the Bel-Air mansion was NOT JACKSON but that of a 47-year-old terminally ill Romanian, Dimitrie Draghicescu, whose family was paid a bundle to get him to participate in this deception that has been planned for several years. So how and why did he do it, and force a cardiologist with a faltering career to cooperate? A Chinese Italian renegade priest at Illuminus Theo, Jackson's primary collaborator, has revealed part of the sinister story behind this mindboggling deception:

Rest in peace! As an artist, you were a true genius and a legend! Your music will live on forever !!!

RIP MJ. You will be missed. You were sick & I hope you found peace.

Michael Jackson, the popular King of Pop is the most talk about celebrity today. His death is really a mystery for some of us. Fans mourning the recent loss of the King of Pop are eagerly awaiting results of the Michael Jackson autopsy. And many of them ponder just what happened, and would give quick cash to see the results of his autopsy. The Michael Jackson autopsy is proving to be a point of intense interest and discussion, as a death from heart attack does not befit a man of only 50 years of age. During the last 15 years of his life, Michael suffered from vitiligo and lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the cells of the body stop recognizing each other and attack themselves, and the condition is potentially lethal without treatment.

I wasn't comparing Michael Jackson to Ed Gein.

All I was saying is that just because someone is mental or had a screwed up past, it doesn't justify the crimes or wrongdoing that person's committed. I'm sorry if it sounded more drastic, but I mean to say, what draws that line?

I've known some people who've been abused as children who turned out fine, but there's always the possibility that some victims of abuse act out, in some ways more extreme than the other...but when it comes to endangering another person, I'm sorry, there's no excuse.

IF if if...Michael Jackson DID molest children, he had more options to get help than most people do. Notice the "if"? I'm really trying to not make conclusions, but if I *must* be honest, his image over the past few decades are so really didn't help his case, especially not with his bizarre public behavior.

I didn't like Michael Jackson. Assuming the worst, he fooled around with little boys...but assuming the best about him, he was innocent but to me he just seemed really self-important and flaky.

However, just because I disliked his character presented by the media DOES NOT mean that I wished death upon him. I wouldn't wish death upon anyone and I feel sympathy for his fans and family. I didn't even like his style of music, but he deserved a lot of credit and respect for his professional life.

OMG, seriously, wasn't 90% of the population referring to this man as "Wacko Jacko" before he died. I don't know if it's mass amnesia or the fear of being struck down by talking bad about the dead, but when I heard he died, instead of talking about what a wonderful artist blah blah blah... the only think I could think of saying was "good."
This man was a serial child molester, an unfit parent (let's not even talk about the baby dangling incident) and in complete denial about the fact that he was a grown man (dare I mention the tree climbing...) In the words of Katt Williams "how did Martha go to prison when Michael Jackson's walkin around smellin like little boys' booty holes?!"

I wish the media spent as much time honoring fallen soldiers and their families. Michael Jackson was a talented artist but it is not like he cured cancer or something. Things need to be put in perspective.

I don't know what black people you talked to but you are mistaken.

1) Of course you don't know the people I talked to. But thanks for clarifying that for me.

2) No, I am not mistaken. I am telling you exactly what I was told.

~~~~~~
They're showing nothing but MJ videos on both BET and TVOne. The black radio stations have been playing MJ songs non-stop.
Those are ENTERTAINMENT media. Playing music and cashing in on a death like this one is what they do. Duh.
They are not the people in the same community as the people I have spoken with today. Those are real WORKING PEOPLE TRYING TO RAISE CHILDREN. People with ordinary jobs and ordinary lives.
And they don't give a fuck about Michael Jackson.
~~~~~~

I have family members that are really sad about his passing especially the older ones that were around during his motown years.

YOU do. They don't.

Or are you suddenly the voice of all black persons, INCLUDING THOSE YOU'VE NEVER MET OR SPOKEN WITH???

~~~~~~
Even with his personal troubles MJ has been an inspiration to many in the black community showing us that even a poor black kid from the middle of nowhere can have big dreams.
I'm sure you are correct.
My friends and employees, and employees at businesses I patronise are more interested in seeing their children receive an education. FACT. I know this because I treat them as well as I treat any of my friends. We talk, because I care about them. In turn, they care about me.
Michael Vick, Mike Tyson, Chris Brown, and others have inspired people too. That does not mean they inspire ALL black kids, nor does it mean I have to admire them.
Perhaps an education would have better prepared MJ to handle the pressures of fame, his personal health, and his financial affairs. Maybe not, but it would not have hurt him in any way, that is certain.
And for every one of those who do rise above their humble beginnings through sports, music, or entertainment, there are many who will never be so lucky. That's why the ones who do are known -- because they are the exception, not the rule.
You have your heroes, I'll have mine, thank you very much.
My black friends and aquaintances hope to see their children graduate from college, and don't care who is being played on MTV, black radio, or whether or not MJ is being honored on BET. They have real lives, goals, and dreams, and MJ is not involved.
Pop music is nice, but it's just entertainment, in the end. Especially MJ's. That's my opinion. It does not have to be yours.
Fuck that! I have not seen proof (but suspect he was a weirdo) of him abusing kids. What I have seen is a body of work that shit, my generation and the one before grew up on. The younger people posting here don't realise how huge he was at his peak. No one today comes close so stop trying to moan about the later stages and let people be sad a huge part of their childhood is gone. I stopped liking him around the BAD album, but fuck me, when Off the Wall and Thriller came out, it was the best thing around. So yes, I am sad. He made amazing music and was of an era that still had amazing stars. You can't translate that to any of the shit today so don't even try. You kids have shit like Lady Gaga. We still had huge superstars and that he was.
most neurotic people are just that; the ones among them who are able to a greater or lesser extent to turn around their lives and make use of their tics, quirks etc. are the ones who end up in the creative sphere because there are only those two ways to go. i speak from experience. it is useless to try to ignore or suppress one's creativity if one wants to be at all content with oneself.
you are right about the neurotic hand being overplayed - certainly by and for those people who stand to profit from it - but scratch 999 out of a thousand creative people and you will find what other people will term "a nut".
incidentally, it is refreshing to be able to have an adult conversation for a change, on this forum, and paticularly on this topic!
Hi Funsten Beewaxer,
We humans do tend to mythologize artists because their work seems to speak to us individually as we imagine God to, and yet in many ways, like God they remain unreachable. While I agree with many of your points and appreciate your thoughtful analysis, I do believe the stereotype of the artist as a disturbed unstable person is overplayed. Artists do tend to make use of whatever quirks they have, but the fact is that most crazy disagreeable people are not artist and many great artists are congenial types who lead very normal lives.
Cheers and thanks again for your thoughtful response,
Gabriela
gabriela
you are right. i think the US entertainment media, particularly, have it in their collective head that entertainers, artists and other creative people should, in addition to being creative, be "normal". i have read a bit of this crud in two of the lower life forms in that segment, which proclaim "stars are just like us!" etc.
what people do not want to consider is that the creative drive/impulse/ability is closely allied to
1 - a less stable emotional/mental state and
2 - a less easily controlled personality in general.
any number of creative people, myself included, are not what one would consider "normal" in the sense of wanting the cocoa puffs served at the latest california kitchen counter made of polished granite, or having three cars and a drug plan.
we are closer to the edge, we are often driven by impulses that seem irresponsible, or perverse, or just plain stupid, to the "normal" person.
many creative people, particularly visual artists, have or had unpleasant personalities; dancers are often obsessive-compulsives and are driven deeper into their "disorder" by some of the requirements of their profession - weight and movement; good actors are narcissists and often vapid and inarticulate if they have no script - there is no "there" there, example being deborah kerr, a great actress who had all the personality of a zero. as for writers, let's not get started.
eventually it should be possible for people to recognize the depth of michael jackson's musical and dancing talents, leaving behind his personality flaws and quirks.
of course, if everyone concentrated on ameliorating one's own flaws the world might be a quieter place!
I think it’s normal to mourn the loss of an artist whose work meant a lot to us. Nor should we expect artists to be perfect human beings. Bernini ordered the mutilation of his ex-lover, Caravaggio committed murder, Wagner and Ezra Pound were anti-Semites. But neither should we bend over backwards to become apologists for our favorite artists. By Michael Jackson’s own admission, that he shared his bed with young boys for years, we can, at the very least, judge that his conduct with children was inappropriate. And just because the parents of these children were greedy, that does not excuse Michael in any way; it just makes the children doubly victimized, if these molestation charges were true. If a math teacher was sharing his own bed at sleepovers with his students would we be so quick to defend him just because he was particularly good at explaining acute angles?
Michael will be missed. Here are some tributes and memories:
I was thinking about how meaningful it is for TMZ and other sites to be first with such breaking news. I know it causes massive site traffic, so it's good for business. But it's not like the sites are warning about an impending tornado or tsunami, where timing is everything. The news would have meant as much a few hours later. And, as we saw yesterday, a lot of the facts get wildly misreported when rushed out as breaking news.
ARGH! I could totally go the other way and spend the entire day ranting about how I HATE motherfuckers who use a sensitive subject such as child molestation to retrieve money from the wealthy. How I HATE that everyone pretty much damned the guy before he even had his say. How I HATE that JUST becuz he's weird people are MUCH more likely to believe such allegations and those people that blackmailed him KNEW that and destroyed his already delicate sensibilities without a care in the world just because he was rich and famous. How I HATE the fact that people like MJ's blackmailers are the people who have made it SO hard for kids who really ARE molested to get a fair shake becuz that kinda thing has been going on for centuries - that's right, blackmail has been going on just as long as pedophilia....
but I think I'll just wait til the day that that boy's parents die so I can do it up right like you folks.
Rant over.
and disclaimer: I don't have any problems with people having their own opinions - I'm very frustrated with the people who have come out of nowhere - not to further substantiate any claims of his guilt but to drone on about the same half-truths we've been hearing for ages and just beat a man when he's down. Like - he's dead! That's how down he is.
PS. Hating pedophiles doesn't fix anything.
RIP MJ. You were strange and you were legendary. Not any single one of us knows nor has any proof that MJ ever molested any kids. There are so many faults, vices, crimes, atrocities, etc that WE ALL have been a part of or committed in our own lives & I'm sure we'd all hate to be remembered for only our sins upon death. I myself am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and still I will not condemn MJ or any other pedophile because honestly, they are sick people & it's just something too grand to even begin to comprehend the psychology behind it. Perhaps I feel this way because I've made my own peace with what happened to me. The man is dead & no longer here to defend himself. Hey Laurel
Thanks for offering the perspective of all black people from a couple that you spoke to. Usually when I want to know what an entire race thinks (because you know they think as a collective), I go just ask a few.
**************************************************
In all fairness, Laurel actually said she spoke to Black people. She did not say a "few", she never specified a number. Besides, your arguing against your own logic. Who can represent a viewpoint of a community better than a member of the community itself? What exactly do you think Martin Luther King Jr., Jesse Jackson, Malcom X and even Al Sharpton attempt/attempted to do on a daily basis? They try to represent the general opinion of the black community, or the members with which they share a belief system with. Since I'm assuming Laurel may not have had access to these particular people, what's so wrong with talking to members of that community to try to educate herself as to their beliefs?
In fact, I find nothing inherently racist in what she had to say, but the fact that you said "...when I want to know what an entire race thinks..." you came the closest to actually making that assumption. Sarcasm or not, you seem to be searching for racism in a statement where I personally don't see any.
