R.I.P. Guiding Light

I'll admit that I never watched one second of Guiding Light, but this still hurts, because soap operas aren't supposed to die. They are supposed to live on forever and ever! They are supposed to grow old with that box of baking soda you keep open in the back of your fridge. Seriously, why don't whores throw those out?

CBS announced today that after 72 years, 15 years on radio and 57 on TV, Guiding Light will play its last episode on September 18th. The big whore at CBS didn't give any reason on why Guiding Light was being snuffed out, but you know what they are going to blame it on..... THE ECONOMY! It's everyone's favorite fucking fall guy.

Now that Guiding Light has been taken out back and put down, what does this mean for the others?! Does my precious One Life to Live need to sleep with a shank under its bed, because it might be next? And then when they finish with the soaps, are they going to come for the court shows? NOT THE COURT SHOWS! I don't like where this is going. I will pop a bitch's eye with my teefs if they touch the court shows. That's how I get my daily dose of "smart TV."

And again, I never watched Guiding Light, but I still want to laminate that montage above and use it as a placemat. That's how I know my brain is still stuck in the 2nd grade. It wants to laminate all photo montages!

Didn't Deidre Hall from Days of Our Lives take a paycut too?

Soap operas are a dying genre and part of a bygone era. Its sad but I think Network TV wants to destroy them for more reality shows and talk shows.

Here is the order in which I think are the ones next to get canceled.

Days" --- From what I read, its days are numbered

ATWT ---- Same

OLTL ----- Its actually supposed to be better than AMC and GH right now but it gets the worse ratings of the 3 ABC soaps

GH ------- Its PURE GRADE A Garbage now. Its all about the mob and Anthony Geary needs to RETIRE!!!

AMC

B+B -------- This soap has a HUGE European Fan Base which is why it will be one of the last to go

Y+R ----- also has a HUGE European Fan Base

I believe one sleeps with a SHIV underneath their bed and uses it to SHANK someone ...

This is a sad day in the soap opera world.. I just hope All My Children isn't next.. Erica Kane will have to cut a bitch if that happens.

Then to make matters worse, the woman who plays this character is in her late 50's and they have her preganant with twins!

Reva was pregnant??! Was it to Josh? I think the last time I watched it Josh was with Reva's sister. Yikes.

I used to watch the CBS soaps all the time when I was in junior/senior high during summer vacation. Guiding Light was probably my favorite so this is a bummer. I tried watching it again not long ago but I had no clue what was going on.

It's about time they pulled the plug on this soap. I used to watch it for years until the characters became so repulsive I could watch no more. It stretches the imagination when an old fat woman is the towns femme fatale and has men fighting over her. Then to make matters worse, the woman who plays this character is in her late 50's and they have her preganant with twins!

Too bad, it used to be a good soap, but the last 10 years have been shockingly bad, not to mention it is filmed w/hand held digital cameras.

RIP!

Seriously? Is this an April Fools joke? I can't imagine GL being canceled when they were always so proud of it being the oldest soap around. Soaps are all about heritage.

Rosie + Ty Ty + Vadge + Menopause = Dead nuts

I grew up at the knee of my mother and grandmother watching Guiding Light. I would get home from school in time to watch it. I loved it. I haven't watched it in a decade, at least, but my mom and sisters are going to be lost without it.

I was strictly an ABC soap girl waaay back.
With the occasional "Young & The Restless" thrown in.
But 72 years, gottdamn.

Wrong MK. The Novellas have an ending. Then they start another novella. How long is unrequieted love supposed to unrequite anyway?

I will admit I keep up with General Hospital. Though that shit sucks from time to time.

So long Reeva, you were a good lady.

Damn. Reba, Billy, Vanessa, Blake, the Spauldings? Good times, y'all. Good, good times.I watched this foolishness in college on the daily. Was known to skip a class if it was good. I'll never forget the time Blake got pregnant with twins and supposedly each twin had a differnt daddy. I am not making this up. I couldn't.

I never watched it either, but I too have fond memories of my paternal grandmother talking about her stories (this was one of them) so this makes me sad.

WHEN I FUCKING SEE...

The OJ trial killed soaps. People tuned out and never tuned back in. If anything happens to my One Life to Live, I'm gonna have to cut someone.

This show Rocked back in the day. Too bad CBS gave up on the show. Better writters and a little money this should could of made it to 75yrs on TV

Daytime soaps are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Next will be Days of our Lives then One life to Live, and As the stomach turns... bet on it.

It's true about the economy. Sort of. Ratings for soap operas have decreased so dramatically over the years that I wouldn't be surprised if more are cancelled. Funny enough, prime time soap operas do well.

Is General Hospital still on? My aunt and cousin LOVE that show.

I never watched this show but I remember my grandmother would sit for hours watching what she called "her stories" with a couple of Old Milwaukees.
