R.I.P. Guiding Light
I'll admit that I never watched one second of Guiding Light, but this still hurts, because soap operas aren't supposed to die. They are supposed to live on forever and ever! They are supposed to grow old with that box of baking soda you keep open in the back of your fridge. Seriously, why don't whores throw those out?
CBS announced today that after 72 years, 15 years on radio and 57 on TV, Guiding Light will play its last episode on September 18th. The big whore at CBS didn't give any reason on why Guiding Light was being snuffed out, but you know what they are going to blame it on..... THE ECONOMY! It's everyone's favorite fucking fall guy.
Now that Guiding Light has been taken out back and put down, what does this mean for the others?! Does my precious One Life to Live need to sleep with a shank under its bed, because it might be next? And then when they finish with the soaps, are they going to come for the court shows? NOT THE COURT SHOWS! I don't like where this is going. I will pop a bitch's eye with my teefs if they touch the court shows. That's how I get my daily dose of "smart TV."
And again, I never watched Guiding Light, but I still want to laminate that montage above and use it as a placemat. That's how I know my brain is still stuck in the 2nd grade. It wants to laminate all photo montages!

I used to watch Santa Barbara (loved Eden and Cruz). Back in college days when Marlana was was pocessed by the devil.
..I loved Nola's dream sequences back in the day...or remember when she and Vanessa wore the same Scarlett O"Hara dress to a costume ball? Priceless.....and my 4th of July's will never be the same without the Bauer Family BBQ...
My grandma used to watch this show..I love Days of Our Lives..they better never get rid of it!
xoxoxoxox
Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.
They have been trying to kill this show off since 1994 when they moved it to 10am (who watches soaps that early? me!).
Ironically when the show is finally geetting tight as far as writing, talent, and production values simultaneously the ax falls. Bollocks!
I found a great site _______M e e t R i c h . C O M_______ . where you have the opportunity dreaming about dating a millionaire and make it true! I thought everyone needed to meet some miracle after all the terrible stuff in the news and the economy
No more SPAULDINGS?!?!?!
Oh...I remember how for a time...during the 80s...CBS soaps produced some talent...I mean its beacuse of Guiding Light (as a commentor mentioned earlier)...we have the illustrious Kevin Bacon...and because of "As the World Turn"...we have the wonderful Meg Ryan and Julianne Moore...
I'm not a old hag...however...I grew up on CBS soaps and I'm sorry about this...
I read this to my husband and he says "Soaps are still on the air?" Sad. I use to love the whole ABC line-up back in the day. Ryan's hope, All my Childern, One life to live and GH. When I was on maternity leave with my daughter, I tried to watch them again. I couldn't do it. The acting is so bad. But again so is the acting on The Bachelor and The Hills.
Shit or get off the pot!
People still watch Soap operas?
I'd rather watch Steve Wilkos throw a chair at the wall..on the rare occasion I have time to watch TV in the day.

I grew up with GL. My Mom has been watching for 50 years. I loved the late 70's with Rita, Ed, Mike and Roger. Then the 80's with Nola, Quint, Mindy and Hilary. When I have tuned in lately, the show is just a shadow of it's hey days, but it is still sad to see it go.

Hey, well I'm the friendly stranger in the black sedan, oh won't you hop inside my car? I got pictures, got candy, I am a lovable man,I'd like to take you to the nearest star I'm your vehicle
It all ended for me when the took Another World off the air. No more soaps for me. Oh how I miss that show. Which never had aliens, midgets, witches or bodily possessions, btw. It was a 'real' soap. Just excessive wealth, petty problems, incest, troubles with the law, marriages, deaths, fake deaths, near deaths, and turned out not to be dead after alls.
FUCK THE ECONOMY...im sick of that excuse too...all my super rich clients are pulling that on me...its pissin me off..I wish they really FELT it...bitches

The war isn't working.
I loved India. And Reva. And Beth and Phillip. Such a shame...
I've come to the conclusion that the USA has too many TV shows and too many foodstuffs.
That's all.
PS. Not enough grass.
Damn this show was on before TV was invented. Never saw one episode. Shows that have bit the dust in my lifetime were, The Edge of Night, Another World, Ryan's Hope, Loving, the fabulous Santa Barbara (love ya Robin Wright Penn)
As long as they don't take off my Young and the Restless I'm happy even though the storylines have been shitty the past couple of years.
M.K. court shows are my crack. I absolutely love GL and it hurts my heart that it's dying a painful death. I watched it for the better part of 25 years.

The peeps I remember from GL are Ross Marler(played by Jerry ver Dorn who is now playing Clint on OLTL), Mindy and Philip, Mo, INDIA! How annoying was she? Reva and Billy and Josh and Rusty and H.B.
My mom used to watch soap operas all day long. I don't really talk to her anymore, but I bet she still does. Frankly, I can't believe any of them lasted as long as they did. They are just so ridiculous.

I remember it, that shit was hilarious. Wasn't that the one where Robert Guillaume played a black guy? And Chuck played a puppet?

"I am the Devil, and I'm here to do the Devil's work"
Don't you people remember the parody SOAP with Billy Crystal and the chick who played Moana in Who's the Boss??!
That shit was frickin' hilarious... I think I was 6 when I watched it and I absolutely loved it! Billy Crystal played the first gay guy on tv too, I think.
Aww..I used to love this show. I started watching when Beth and Lujack were hot and heavy. (early 80's??) I used to love Reva Shayne and Roger Thorpe.

And if I only could,

I watched it religiously 17 years ago!
LONG LIVE REBA!!!
~Well, bless your heart~
I am really sad about this...I used to watch Guiding Light and As The World Turns with my Memaw.
Beth and Lujack! Iva and Quentin! Reva and Josh! Kelly and whatever that blonde girl's name was!
Roger Thorpe!
I am starting to get seriously teary over this.
OLTL can't keep fans because of the uneven stories. The show will be great for a couple months, then all of a sudden it sucks so bad you can't bear to watch it. They keep bringing new people on the show but don't keep them around long enough for anyone to care about them. They had the nerve to bring my beloved obsession Randolph Mantooth on the show back in 2007 and then sped his character through a storyline in the span of a couple months, then had his character shanked in jail. I was so pissed.

Pssht...They'll revive that shit on Broadway and make some lame ass musical out of it.
In a weird way, I'd rather see that than see movies like Spiderman turned into musicals. If soap operas are campy anyway, it kind of makes sense.
*******************************************
Fuck! I think you're right! By George she's got it! (couldn't resist)...
Yeah, they may as well bring out the soap operas as quasi operas (that's fab) rather that the vomitrocious muck they've been tryna feed us...
But you know if they do that shit, Beverly Hills 90210 will be the first "soap" to go Broadway...Bet you money...
Oh, and need I say the two most horrifying words Broadway can ever hear? TORI SPELLING...Oh yeah, you know that whore would make it happen. That bitch has just GOT to be the mushy turd filling in a crusty shit pie!

Wow, it's like we existed in parallel universes! I remember my Mum doing the same. I would fake- sick so I could stay home from school and get back on track with my stories. Quite frequently, I'd enhance my viewing pleasure by indulging in a serving of Soft Swirl, Jello 1-2-3, or the all-time favourite . . . Space Food Sticks. Ah, the glorious 70's.

Fuck. I love the soap genre. I haven't watched GL in a long while, but this is shitty news. It's been slim pickings for soap fans for quite a while now. To satisfy my craving for campy drams, I watch the telenovelas. La Tormenta is the shiz. And another run of La Madrastra(The Stepmother) is scheduled to start in a few weeks; that's the novela that they used to talk about on The Soup on E! a few years back. Looks entertaining.

"Living Your Golden Years To The Fullest!" such as my friend on "--- 40plusfinder.com ---" said. That is a really funny and interesting place for baby boomers and other mature singles in their 40's, 50's and 60's to keep the flames of love and passion burning.
This show was the SHIT. It wasn't just Granny's show - it was seriously the shit with Reva. She wasn't just the Hot Slut of the Day, that bitch was the permanent Slut of Springfield!
Annie Dutton was the hottest bitch ever. And they have two hot bitches falling in love with each other now.
Phillip Spaulding is a fine piece of ass. He was at 20 and still is now. That's a mega-fine peen.
This shouldn't go. But soaps are all dying, sadly. Your dear One Life to Live is next. All shows except maybe "Young and the Restless" will be gone soon.
here's s'more info on it all

Pssht...They'll revive that shit on Broadway and make some lame ass musical out of it. Why not? Broadway has become a total public toilet (with no toilet paper)...I mean, they will make "Smurfs: The musical", then they'll get to "Guiding Light"...Yeah, I can see it...

Aww!! I made it through my teen years with Beth and Lujack. Back when my mom would record this on her Betamax...those were the days.
"They are supposed to grow old with that box of baking soda you keep open in the back of your fridge."
Seriously MK, how did you know? Wait....are you the certain someone who has been taking food from my refrigerator and then recalibrating my scale to make it look like I'm the fat ass eating all the food?!! You BASTARD!!
i still wished they hadn't cancelled Sunset Beach---that was camp.
sunset beach, DAYs and then Another World--those were the days.
awww..i saw this on the news this evening and i thought it was joke....i never watched this show, but it still makes me sad to see it go away...

THEY BEST LEAVE OLTL ALLOOOOOONNNNEEE!!!
To the idiot below, OLTL is not the lowest rated of the ABC soaps- the three soaps basically tie- with GH getting slightly higher demos.
OLTL is the most profitable ABC soap, and also the best by far. And it looks good too. vs GH and AMC which look like high school plays.
Nobody is touching our OLTL now, Michael. NO ONE.

Didn't Deidre Hall from Days of Our Lives take a paycut too?
----------------------
If you call getting the axe a paycut, then yes. She and the guy who played John Black got their walking papers at the end of 2008. She's gone.
**********
NOOOOOOOO! John Black and Marlena got fired?? How could they do that to Marlena? She's been raped, drugged, held prisoner by Stefano, possessed by the devil, abducted and impersonated by her evil twin; she has dumped Roman, then been dumped by Roman who was really John Black, who used to be Roman. She even died once and then came to in the deep freeze! As for John Black, he was just a show pony with a nice head of hair. Pffft!

MK!!! Don't give them ideas! They can't cancel the court shows! OH GOD. NOT the court shows ... or Cops. Both are very educational.
I don't want to imagine a world without Judge Judy ... nOOOOOoooo.
This was my show all through college - before Josh and Reva even existed. Kevin Bacon was on it as a teenager : )
I skipped an exam (I mean, I had a dental emergency !) so I could watch it the day evil Roger died over the waterfall.......
For you youngins, this was the late 70s and we didn't have them TV recording devices. If you missed it, you missed it! I remember running back to the dorm to catch that episode.
My mom used to do her ironing while GL and ATWT were on, while we played with our Barbies.

LOL! Then I guess I do. That's a new euphemism - 'I didn't get laid off/fired, I took an extreme paycut.'
used to watch this every day after class when I was in college. Never understood why everyone thought Josh was so hot.
Holy poop, back when I watched tv this was the only soap opera I ever watched. Josh and Reva 4evah!

Haha! No, Josh divorced Cassie to be with Reva, but Reva married the guy that looks like the Prince that Cassie was once married to years ago (can't remember his name) and Reva has cancer and is pregnant with twins. Josh and her husband are fighting over her like she is some super model.
My mom fills me in occasionally of the haps bcuz she finds it so ridiculous. She is furious that they are trying to act like Reva is a spring chicken!
To the poster that said all women who watch this are old and soak their tits in a tub, you are rather rude and hateful. Just because soaps may not be your cup of tea, no need to be insulting to those who do enjoy the soaps, or this one in particular.
